3am wake-ups aren’t “just your age.”

There’s a lot of root causes (cortisol, hormones, insulin, low progesterone etc) but the one thing women do need as they age is enough magnesium to support mood, hot flashes, sleep, migraines and insulin resistance.

Here’s the thing with magnesium. The study on these slides used a dose that’s higher than what’s generally advised on supplement bottles, which is exactly why I don’t want you guessing from a shelf.

Form matters. Dose matters. Who made it matters.
So I put together The Vital Women Collection with Hewyn .

These are the supplements I’d actually reach for as our bodies change. Speak to your health practitioner or coach before adding anything new, especially if you’re on medication.

Comment LIST and I’ll send you my collection, and my code for 12% off these supplements at Hewyn is VITALWOMAN.

Nine things I picked up at Organic Foods and Café today, and why each one is in the trolley.

We can do a lot with food. Not everything, but a lot more than most women realise.

1. Broccoli sprouts — the compound your liver uses to clear hormones

2. Salmon — two portions a week and you’ve got your omega3 support.

3. Goat kefir — more strains than any capsule carries

4. Pomegranate — in season and amazing natural antioxidant
5. Goat’s cheese — calcium that comes with protein and vitamin A

6. Coconut water — great for hydration and natural electrolytes

7. Chicory — this is where prebiotic powders come from. Helps bowel regularity

8. Chamomile — the ritual matters as much as the plant, great for sleep!

9. Nutritional yeast — B vitamins and it tastes like cheese

I weigh more now than when I was running every day.

Back then I was thin, but my periods were heavy and painful and my iron was low. Now my hormones are balanced and my iron isn’t low anymore.

It wasn’t one big thing. It was these 5.

I’ve was back home over the last couple weeks handling a lot more of a stress than my usual load. Family illness, childhood trauma, the list goes on.

You can do everything right on paper. The supplements, the breakfast, the bloods. But if the life around you keeps your body in survival mode, it’ll keep reacting to that first.

Sometimes the work is changing what’s around you, not adding more. Surround yourself with people who uplift you, inspire you and help you in the tough days and don’t ignore the signs. One of the biggest signs of stress is fatigue, vertigo, inflammation and digestive issues. Sometimes it’s as simple as removing yourself from that stressful situation, but there’s often consequences internally so start with your bloods and get them decoded from a top down approach not a disease management approach.

Comment DECODE if you want help reading what your body’s telling you.

You might have seen it over on Hewyn yesterday. I’m their new women’s wellness ambassador, and the reason I said yes is sitting in my DMs most weeks.

Women who get told their bloods are normal and still don’t feel like themselves. The night sweats, the brain fog, the hair falling out rapidly in the hairbrush, shower, the bloating that makes no sense.

So together we’ve built something for exactly her. A 30 day program perimenopause protocol launching in October to raise awareness as part of World Menopause Day. Perimenopause is the life phase before menopause and often women are dismissed and told their symptoms are normal, or part of aging. Well guess what? Your body is always speaking to you and trying to tell you to listen. Discomfort is never normal.

This isn’t just some generic protocol, it is done properly with your unique data, biometrics, and with the support to actually follow through.

Registration is open now, and we would love you to get your name down early.

Comment PROTOCOL and I’ll send you the link to register your interest.

Cortisol face is not a thing.

Puffiness is usually dehydration, alcohol, a few broken nights, histamine, or changes happening in your cycle. It can sometimes be linked to a slow thyroid or even insulin issues. Actual Cushing syndrome is that sliver at the top and it comes with a whole cluster not just a face.

Stress still matters in perimenopause. You feel it at 3am and again at 3pm, not in your cheekbones. It manifests in many different ways, inflammation being a key one.

When do you most notice a puffy face?

My grandma had the kind of energy that filled a room. She fed everyone, loved hard, and we lost her far too early. Diabetes.

For a long time I thought that was just our family’s story. Something you inherit and wait for. Then I started reading bloods for a living, and I kept seeing the early signs in women in their 40s. Long before anyone said the words insulin resistance or diabetes to them.

What nobody tells you is that as estrogen starts swinging in perimenopause, your body can get worse at handling insulin. Fat moves to your middle, muscle quietly slips, and the scale might barely change while it’s happening. So if nothing about your routine has changed but your body feels like someone else’s, you’re not imagining it.

A family history of diabetes doesn’t mean it’s already decided for you. It means you get to look earlier. That starts with your own numbers, fasting insulin as well as glucose.

I couldn’t change what happened to my grandma. I can make sure it isn’t how the story goes for the women I work with.
