AM Mind Your Body Group programs and movement classes to connect body & mind and sustainably manage stress

06/10/2026

One of the hardest things for many of us is not doing more - but finding calm and stillness.

And that’s exactly why we need to practice coming back to the body, breath, the moment.

Trauma-informed yoga is the perfect blend to help with that:

To notice what’s happening within you.
To feel supported rather than pushed.
To reconnect with your body at your own pace.

🧘‍♀️ 4- weeks of gentle movement, based on accessible, trauma-informed yoga

🌱 Each week has a different theme (like safety, groundedness, etc.) intended as guidance
🌱 Creating space to move, breathe, notice and reconnect with your body - at your own pace.

"Nervous system resets", vagus nerve stimulators, 'vagal tone' devices - these are buzz words all over socials. And influencers, social media marketers, profit.

Most likely, it's BS...

Here's an excellent article that separates facts from fiction.

The internet is full of warnings about our ‘dysregulated’ nervous systems. But, experts say, you don’t need to reset yours – you might just need to make it more flexible. Here’s how (and no, you don’t need an acupressure mat)

Have you ever been triggered by an SMS or a WhatsApp message and you want to either fire back or stew on it?

💚 Good opportunity to step back, take a breath, and not reply immediately.

Or finding yourself in the middle of an argument and feeling stuck? Like, in freeze?

💚 Let the other person know you need a moment. Maybe take a walk before continuing the argument.

Notice yourself spiralling? Overthinking a past event and ruminating?

💚 Take a breath, move your body.

What about those moments of self-criticism, and relentless comparison?

💚Turn your phone on “do not disturb” and take a break from social media.

At risk of automatically saying “yes” to requests?

💚 Pause. Say, “I need some time to think about that”

Or how about:
✅ Taking a mini break when life has become too full and too busy

✅ Choosing not to keep rereading the email, text or conversation that upset you.

✅ Giving yourself some space from a problem before trying to solve it.

Consciously creating distance is not avoidance.

“I am not what I think I am.
I am not what you think I am.
I am what I think you think I am.” (Slightly adapted quote by the American sociologist Charles Horton Cooley, 1902).

I actually disagree.

Sure, our sense of self can be shaped by how we believe other people see us.

But I don’t think that’s who we are.

If I spend my life trying to be who I think you want me to be, I can become very disconnected from who I actually am.

The people-pleaser.
The high achiever.
The “strong one.”
The easygoing one.
The one who doesn’t need anything.

These can become identities we learn to inhabit, sometimes so well that we forget to question whether they still fit.

Part of psychological growth, for me, is being able to ask:

Who am I when I’m not managing how I’m perceived?

Not what I think you think I should be.

Not what you think I am.

But who I actually am.

What do you think? Agree, disagree, “it depends”?

This movement series gets you to unlearn everything you learned at the gym.

A 4-week trauma-informed movement series designed to help you slow down, reconnect with your body and explore movement in a way that feels safe, accessible and supportive.

This isn’t about pushing harder, getting “better”, or the “perfect” pose.

Back when I started studying psychology it was all about “challenging irrational thoughts” 💭

I always found that kinda strange and a bit rude, tbh. I mean, who defines “irrational”? And also, what about feelings? 🤔

Then I delved into trauma research, back as a mere 20yo research assistant at Bethel in Bielefeld, Germany. Here, we did fMRI studies and compared brain activity in trauma survivors compared to those who had not experienced (major) trauma.

It feels as if over the past 10years psychological research and practice has (finally) turned a corner and realized that “yes, we need to consider the body, too!” (Duh…).

Still, the idea of bringing the body into the therapy room raises eyebrows.

Here are 5 common myths I want to debunk.

And if you’re interested in learning more, subscribe to my newsletter! I’m planning the next dates for Regulate & Restore, my signature mind & body group program (and no, nothing “whoo whoo” about that haha 😆 🤓)

I often liken therapy to driving. 🚙

And I tell my clients “you are behind the steering wheel. I’m on the back seat. I can help you navigate, but you are in control”.

I’m not here to take over.
I’m not here to tell you where to go.
And I’m definitely not here to judge your driving. 😉

I’m here to help you read the map, notice the patterns, navigate the tricky turns and maybe find a different route when the old one isn’t working anymore.

Sometimes we slow down.

Sometimes we pull over.

Sometimes you might realise we’ve been heading in a direction that doesn’t actually feel like yours anymore.

Psychological therapy is not about handing your power over to someone else.

It’s about having someone beside you while you build the insight, skills and confidence to steer your own life.

You’re in the driver’s seat.
I’m here to help you navigate.

“Psychologically healthy” doesn’t mean never getting angry or upset, or always knowing what to say.

It’s being able to:

1️⃣ Notice:
“I’m getting overwhelmed.”

2️⃣ Regulate.
“I need a minute.”

3️⃣ Repair.
“I got that wrong. I’m sorry.”

4️⃣ Reconnect.
“Let’s try again.”

We don’t need perfect parents.

We all need parents who can manage their own feelings, who know that mistakes can be repaired, and who can model that relationships can survive disconnection.

That’s emotional strength. And it can be learned.

Here’s to all the dads in therapy, learning what might have never been modeled to them.
