I’m a huge believer and advocate for, supporting the mother.
When a mother feels held, loved, nurtured and supported, she has more capacity to care for, connect with and nurture her new baby.
We spend so much time preparing for the arrival of a baby. Buying the clothes, the right pram and setting up the nursery.
But what about preparing for the arrival of a mother?
A traditional baby shower can be a beautiful celebration, but I love the idea of doing something a little bit different.
Did you do something to celebrate becoming a mother? Would love to hear more ideas.
I remember with my first baby, I was gifted about 30 different baby blankets and most of them never got used! They were lovely, but I would’ve loved to have had a freezer full of meals and snacks to get me through those first few challenging months. So I could stay in bed with my baby and focus on healing and connecting with him.
Matrescence is the profound physical, emotional and psychological transformation a woman experiences when she becomes a mother.
Much like adolescence, Matrescence is a period of enormous change. A time of shifting identity, relationships, priorities and sense of self.
It’s not simply about learning to care for a new baby, but about adjusting to a whole new version of yourself.
This transition takes time, and if you have the right support in place from the beginning, it can make all the difference.
