🌸 CHRISTMAS CUT- OFF DATES & CLOSING DATES 🌷

🎅🏼 Christmas is coming soon and we can’t wait to be a part of yours. We’ll only be closing between the 24- 28 December so will be open for last minute shopping. We’ll be stocking many goodies including our handmade leather goods, ceramics, illustrations, stationery, lifestyle and homeware goods.

🤶🏼 Our Christmas cut- off for orders requiring interstate postage is the 7th December and orders only requiring pick up at Namu Shop is the 14th December. We recommend messaging us earlier if you’re wanting a custom order (pet charms/ slight adjustments or specific leather choices to our current designs).

Official Kumamoto Traditional Craft (Kutami Uchiwa by Kurikawa Shop, established in 1889).

These traditional fans are treated with natural persimmon tannin (kakishibu), making them naturally insect-repellent and stronger over time.

NEW ARRIVAL | KURIKAWA SHOTEN’S SHIBU UCHIWA

Kutami Uchiwa began producing in 1600 when a travelling priest from Marugame City (a city famous for uchiwa) introduced the people of Kutami City the production method of uchiwa in return for letting him stay the night.

The uchiwa is coated with persimmon tannin, making the washi stronger and long-lasting while also insect proofing.

Shibu Uchiwa can only be produced in ‘来民 | Kutami’, a word that can also mean “people come”. It’s believed to guide people to have thriving businesses which is why their uchiwa served as a lucky charm and often used as gifts for milestones like weddings, births, or new business openings. It’s also frequently used for daily cooling and as functional kitchen tools by chefs for cooling sushi rice or managing grill- charcoal.

At Namu, we’re currently stocking 3 models: Shomaru, Sensen and Black Diamond. Available in store and via DM.

Namu Shop is open Tuesday- Sunday 9am- 4pm. We’ll be closed between the 8- 23 October for our honeymoon. Thank you for your understanding.
