📅 ONE YEAR AGO 🔙

Let's have a look back one year ago, when Johnny embarked on a mission to bring awareness to Prostate cancer.

Not only did it make the local paper, but with everyone's contributions - we raise over $2,000+ with a fun show of Johnny Unicycling 🎪 past 72 cones for each men diagnosed on average daily in Australia 💙
..and something he may not do again, shave his wavy hair all off 😮

With Johnny's incredible ways of thinking outside the box and promoting things, what is a special cause to you that you'd like Wide Bay Exercise Physiology to bring light to in 2027?

Today is World Clinical Exercise Physiology Day!

What does it mean to be an Exercise Physiologist, Johnny?

For me, it means:
- People regaining function and independence that was once lost.
- Ensuring people recover from their work-related injuries, returning to their usual lives.
- Educating and changing mindsets. Either other health professionals, or someone's own limiting belief of their potential.
- Mentoring others: Passing on the knowledge and expertise I've accrued in my six years in practice.

This list can go on much more, but those who know, do know, my passion for my career is matched by events of my personal life.

We take this opportunity to appreciate everyone. If you have been a patient walking through our doors, a fellow Exercise Physiologist, an allied health professional or a specialists, GP or simply the administrative staff that allow the cogs turn the wheel in the background.

We thank everyone, that has believed and advocated for our profession.

(Mind you, I was driving all day to see amazing people like her 🦵 ) !

🥳Last week, the big 98 was what was on Sheila's birthday cake. That's a lot of candles! 🎂

Incredible women like her don't come without stories 📖 Sheila:
- was in the local paper 70 years ago becoming the first female to beat the men's in tennis in Bundaberg🏅
- had her most recent TKR (total knee replacement) the year I was born 🦿
- she retired from cycling circa. 5 years ago. You do the maths!
- she has relatively great health, attributed to her love for tennis and dancing 🎾 💃

Incredible people like this remind me every day what consistent effort can achieve. Today, that means being able to stand up from the couch without carer assistance - and that means a lot to me as a practitioner

Hi everyone! You may have noticed a few new faces around here lately, in the clinic and in your homes 🏡
..But there is also a new smile on my face 😀

📅 One month ago today, I got engaged to my amazing fiancée, Debbie 💍

Yes, you read that right! And how is that view? 🤩

Years of squats and lunges paid off as I popped the question to her in her home country 😊 This was a new moment for my heart, no amount of cardio prepared me for this haha ❤️

I wonder if anyone can guess where this may be? 🏔

I appreciate all who have privately messaged me and popped by to show their love ❤️😍

Over the moon with this one!

Healthcare should be about access — not added costs.

When the Howard government first introduced the Goods and Services Act in 2000, many essential healthcare services were rightly made tax-free. At the time, Exercise Physiology was still an emerging profession and was excluded from the list.

Fast forward to today, and exercise physiology is now recognised across Medicare, the DVA, NDIS, WorkCover QLD and private health insurers as an evidence-based healthcare service that plays a vital role in preventing and managing chronic disease, pain, injury and mental health conditions.
Yet, despite this recognition, Australians are still paying an additional 10% GST on every exercise physiology appointment.

For many people living with chronic conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, arthritis, neurological conditions and obesity, ongoing care is not optional — it is essential. The added cost can create unnecessary barriers to treatment, particularly for older Australians, people living with disability, and those already facing financial pressure.

Removing GST from exercise physiology would help make preventive, evidence-based healthcare more affordable and accessible for the people who need it most. Not just here in Bundaberg, but all of Australia.

It’s time for policy to reflect modern healthcare.
As an EP for over 6 years, I support the push to have Exercise Physiology recognised as a GST-free health service under the GST Act and help improve access to care for Australians. Please show your support and sign the petition: https://bit.ly/4fimj1p
