Ever noticed where your tongue is sitting right now? 👅
That’s the world of orofacial myology. It’s all about the muscles of your face, mouth and tongue, and how they work together every time you breathe, swallow, chew and rest.
Think of it as a bit like posture, but for your mouth. Where your tongue rests, whether your lips are gently closed, and how you breathe through the day (and night!) all shape how your jaw and neck feel. For some people, that’s where the grinding, clenching and jaw tension creep in, especially when life is stressful. And if you’re hypermobile, those little muscles around the jaw can end up working overtime to keep things steady.
The good news is these habits can be retrained. Myofunctional therapy is simply gentle exercises and awareness to help your mouth and face muscles work in a more relaxed, supported way. 🌿
We include it alongside hands-on care for TMJ, neck pain and headaches, because it’s all connected.
