Mental health professionals 👏
You are warmly invited to the next Geelong Mental Health Network meeting.

Topic: Disability, Women and Sexual Health

Monday, 26 October 2026 8.30am - 10am

RSVP NOW - free but essential https://mhpn.org.au/members/ #/Meeting/28149

About the session:
Join us for an open, multidisciplinary discussion about disability, women’s s*xual health and mental wellbeing, bringing together personal experiences and professional perspectives.

The session will explore talking about s*x, intimacy and s*xual health, including the shame and stigma associated with s*x, disability and STIs, making this an important consideration for professionals supporting women across health, mental health and disability services.

Together, we will consider how progress our practice with people with disability and support women’s choice, dignity and access to appropriate professional care.

Co-facilitators:
Suzanne Sprague
Director, Emerald Tree Psychological Therapies & EAP

Suzanne will invite us to explore how professionals can approach conversations with clients about disability, s*x, intimacy and s*xual health. Recognising our own discomfort or assumptions, and making room for clients to discuss their needs and concerns without judgement.

Justin Health
SE Regional Director, Victorian Disability Services, Life Without Barriers

Justin has offered his venue for our meeting. Justin is the regional director of Life without barriers. He will bring a disability service-delivery perspective, with a focus on meaningful support, individual choice and the connection between everyday support practices and mental wellbeing.

Speaker information:
Justine Martin
Justine is an award-winning artist, disability advocate, speaker and author of the memoir Moxie. Through her creative work, writing and advocacy, she shares her experience of disability and navigating significant life challenges.

Drawing on the personal reflections she shares in her memoir, she brings valuable insights.

🌻 19–25 October is Invisible Disabilities Week.

Many Victorians live with disabilities you can’t see.

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Australia & New Zealand sunflower is a simple way to show when someone may need extra time, understanding or support in daily life.

By recognising the sunflower, we can all help build more inclusive communities.

💚 On Friday, Suzanne was let out of the office 😊 to visit Cloverdale Community Centre!

It was lovely to be shown around by Willie, who also introduced us to Ursula, the Centre Coordinator. Thank you both for making us feel so welcome!

While we were there, we couldn’t resist trying their $2.50 toasties and they were absolutely delicious! 😋

💛 Have you visited Cloverdale Community Centre yet? If not, make it your next stop! Pop in, meet the team, discover what’s on offer and enjoy some of their delicious, affordable food. You might just discover your new favourite local spot!

Let’s support our local community spaces and the wonderful people who make them special. 🙌

We’re also exploring the possibility of offering a satellite clinic in the North and would love to hear from you. Would a regular clinic closer to home make it easier for you or someone you support to access our services? Tell us which area would be most convenient, what days or times would work best, and what you’d like the clinic to offer. Your feedback will help us understand the need and shape our plans.

Being present, and mindful of what we are grateful for, allows us the see our opportunities.

Has that convinced you to make your daily gratitude lists? Doing it daily encourages it to become a habit of thinking. ✔️
