Today is National War Widows Day💕

We remember the widows and families now without their loved ones as a result of service. I listened at the Honouring the Hidden Service national symposium to the journeys of partners that had lost their loved ones. An absolutely devastating loss, then the journey of rebuilding/reshaping lives, whilst carrying the full weight of grief.

Today is War Widows Day.

Some war widows and widowers lost their partner in service, and others years after it. All of them have carried the cost of service at home.

For more than 100 years, Legacy has stood beside them.

To every war widow and widower, we recognise what you have given, and we thank you.

An incredible opportunity to attend the Partners of Veterans Australia, Honouring the hidden Service National Symposium.

The voices of our partners and loved ones that support us in our service roles was heard - loud and clear 💕
The symposium opened the door to the lived experience of partners, children and grandchildren. Who shared their grief as relationships and loved ones are lost or changed by service experiences, the uncertainty, change, feeling hidden, constantly rebuilding the lives of children and their service member on postings, employment challenges, isolation from family supports, fatigue from doing all the things needed to keep a home afloat as we commit to our service roles.

It also shined a light on the genuine love, patience, kindness, grit and hope in supporting us throughout our service.
When talking about the journey of supporting a serving partner, so many echoed the words that what happened to their loved one wasn’t their fault.
Beautiful, simple and very powerful.

I look forward to sharing the resources and insights from the symposium on our upcoming partners program in November 🙌🏻

It was also a great opportunity to support Remount - a team and community that I proudly support and volunteer with. Ben delivered a fantastic presentation and panel session to share the powerful story of reconnection through horsemanship 🙌🏻🤠❤️

The Class Action is a Federal Court case against the Commonwealth, brought on behalf of current and former female ADF members who experienced gender-based sexual assault, harassment and/or discrimination during their service from 2003–2025.

Behind every uniform is a family whose service, sacrifice and resilience deserve recognition.
This Friday, 16 October, Partners of Veterans Australia (P.V.A.) will bring together Defence and veteran families, government leaders, clinicians and advocates at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra for a national conversation about the people who serve alongside those in uniform.
Through powerful presentations and panel discussions, we will explore the experiences of Defence and veteran families, mental health and wellbeing, recognition, advocacy and the importance of ensuring their voices are heard.

🇦🇺 Today we reflect on the 25 years that have past since the Australian Defence Forces commenced operations in Afghanistan.

We remember and give gratitude to all that have served in the Afghanistan campaign.

We remember the 47 brave and courageous service personnel on the Afghanistan Roll of Honour.

We remember those that today carry the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual pain of their service in Afghanistan.

We remember the many loved ones that have supported us in our Afghanistan service and beyond.

Days like today can bring painful memories and triggers for many. Take care of yourself and each other.
