Direct or pulsed current? Here’s how to choose on your Saalio®.

The Saalio® has two current types. Direct current is a steady flow, more intense and, based on experience, more effective, so it’s the one to try first. On the screen it shows as a solid bar.

Pulsed current comes in short bursts. It feels gentler, so you can usually turn it up higher, though it tends to be less effective. It’s there for when direct current is uncomfortable even at low settings, for sensitive skin, for children with small hands and feet, or for the maintenance phase when you’re managing sweating once a week. It shows as a broken bar.

Can you put antiperspirant on your hands and feet?

Yes. Antiperspirant isn't just for underarms. On sweaty palms and soles it works the same way, forming a temporary gel plug in the sweat duct so less sweat reaches your skin.

Hands and feet have lots of sweat glands, so a clinical-strength formula is the place to start. Apply it at night to clean, completely dry skin, after your last hand wash of the evening. Use it nightly for the first week, then most people only need one or two nights a week.

Still sweating after two fair weeks? Iontophoresis works differently, and you can try it at home first.

Your first month with iontophoresis, explained in 30 seconds.

Start with a session every day or two, at least 15 minutes each. Begin on a low setting and turn it up gradually; it should never be painful. Swap the current direction between sessions, or use AUTO to switch it halfway, so both sides are treated evenly.

A first change in sweating is often noticed after 10 to 14 days. Keep going for a further 3 to 4 weeks until sweating is where you want it. After that, sessions are typically once a week for 15 to 20 minutes, and some people can go weeks between sessions as their response builds.

Why doesn't my deodorant stop me sweating?

Most deodorants were never made to. They deal with smell, not sweat. If you sweat heavily, look for an antiperspirant with an aluminium salt, which forms a temporary gel plug in the sweat duct so less sweat reaches your skin.

How you use it matters too. Apply it at night to clean, completely dry skin and rinse it off in the morning. Use it nightly for the first week, then most people only need one or two nights a week.

Still sweating after two weeks? Iontophoresis works differently, on the nerve signals, for hands, feet and underarms. Maintenance is typically once a week for 15 to 20 minutes, and some people can go weeks between treatments as their response builds over time.

Why tap water? The simple reason iontophoresis uses it, for sweaty hands.

The natural minerals in tap water let a gentle current flow through it. The water also fills every crease of your palm, so the current reaches the whole treatment area: your palms are fully wet, with the water a third of the way up the sides of your fingers.

It's just lukewarm tap water, no medication. About 0.8 to 0.9 L per tray, and lukewarm feels more comfortable.

Does iontophoresis hurt? The honest answer, in 25 seconds.

It should never be painful. You set the level: start low (1 to 3 mA in your first session) and turn it up until you feel a light tingle or warmth. The current builds up slowly and eases off at the end, and you can lift your hands out any time. If it feels too strong, turn it down or try pulsed current, which feels gentler.

Afterwards, some redness or dryness can happen. It fades, and a moisturising cream can help.

What is iontophoresis? Sweaty hands treatment explained in 25 seconds.

Your hands rest in shallow tap water, just enough to cover your palms and the lower third of your fingers. A gentle current flows through the water, set to a level you choose, and it should never be painful.

It’s thought to quiet the overactive signal that switches sweating on. Nothing is blocked, and the sweat glands themselves aren’t changed. A first change is often noticed after 10 to 14 days, then sessions are typically once a week to keep sweating under control.

Real words from one of our Saalio® Hands & Feet customers.

Something she shared that we hear often: she didn’t realise at first that she could treat her hands and feet at the same time. If you’re newer to your device, it’s worth knowing. The manual suggests starting with hands and feet separately so you can find the right setting for each, then treating them together once your levels feel similar.

And to everyone still finding their rhythm with treatment, consistency matters more than turning the current up. Once you’re into maintenance, most people treat about once a week for 15–20 minutes, and some find they can go longer between sessions as their response builds.

Why do my hands sweat so much? Sweaty palms explained in 25 seconds.

If your palms sweat when you’re not hot or nervous, you’re not alone. Primary hyperhidrosis is a medical condition, not a hygiene issue, and it often starts in childhood or the teens. The nerves that switch sweating on are thought to be overactive.

There are options you can use at home, like clinical-strength antiperspirants and Saalio® iontophoresis. Not sure where to start? Email our team at [email protected].
