The one thing I find myself asking again and again, for every Mum in every stage of parenting is this.....
Have you had something to eat?
Have you had something to drink?
Have you taken your vitamins or medicine?
And you're doing an amazing job of being a Mum.

One thing I don't love about working in maternal mental health is the way that Mum's wellbeing is treated as optional. As a bonus, an add on or a thing that's nice to have rather that a vital aspect of health.
We all deserve to feel healthy- both physically and mentally, and being a Mum doesn't mean we deserve it any less.

This is an important opportunity for women in Australia to share information about their health, how they experienced health care and maternity care.

The new Senate Select Committee on Women’s Health is now accepting submissions. The Select Committee will examine critical women’s health issues including the postpartum period, women’s pain, fertility and the regulation of medical devices. Submissions don’t need to be complex, it can be as simple as sharing your story. You can make a submission by visiting the link below, where you can also find important information about protecting your privacy:

10 questions for you if you want to understand what my work is about...

What are you doing to support your own health
When was the last time you had real rest
What did you expect from your birth and did it meet your expectations
Do you feel as though you’re being supported in motherhood
Do you feel as though you have a bond with your baby
Do you wonder why everyone else seems to have it all together
Have you eaten today (leftover dino nuggets don’t count)
Are you struggling to look after yourself with the basics (shower, food, sleep)
Do you sometimes wish you hadn’t had children
Are you getting advice from lots of people but none of it seems to help

As a perinatal mental health practitioner, I'd really love to see these things be so commonplace that it would feel weird not to have them.
