The nervous system heals in the presence of safety and connection.

Trauma often leaves people feeling disconnected from themselves, from others, and from any steady sense of safety. Healing begins when someone is met with attunement, care, and the experience of not having to protect all the time.

A compassionate clinician, a trusted friend, a supportive community, or even a beloved animal can help create the conditions where the body softens and trust begins to return. In safe relationship, survivors can begin to feel seen without shame, heard without dismissal, and supported without pressure.

Healing is not about fixing what is broken. It is about reconnecting with what had to go quiet in order to survive.

As the sun sets on this long weekend, I am reflecting on what a glorious weekend it has been here at EVE. Full of kids, family & fun. With regular visitors to EVE for their intensive school holiday sessions, there is a tinge of sadness to see them go & I am hoping our sessions will assist them through the next school term.

Feeling so grateful and proud of what we have created here at EVE - a safe environment for kids just to be who they are, with no judgement, no pressure, increasing their capacity for life outside the EVE paddock.

I never imagined our practice would evolve as it has, it has taken years of study & commitment, hard work on the property and developing the herd- all with plenty of support from family & friends.

Our website has been updated and refreshed - please check it out for our updated services (best to look on larger screen for now, minor issues with viewing photos on phones!) 🥰

Highly recommend watching tonight’s episode of Compass on ABC iview -the importance of relational care & connection with kids. Steph Murphy (who I trained with in Equine Assisted Therapy), talks about her work & the benefits of EAT. Love ya Steph- great explanation during your interview, love your work! ❤️🐴

"What that young person needed was just someone to show up for them, repeatedly, and go: 'Hey, I got you.'"

Steph Douglas-Murphy is a Youth Worker Specialist with Professional Individualised Care (PIC). She works with horses to support children who've been through trauma; herd animals that are flighty and hyper-alert to their surroundings, not unlike the young people she works with. Where trust in adults has broken down, the horses offer something no clinic can: an honest, judgement-free mirror, and a way back to feeling calm and connected.

Watch Steph's story in The Way We Care, airing Sunday 2 August, 6.30pm AEST on .
