𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐁𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧

Notice what happens in your chest the moment a notification lights up your phone screen.

We live in a constant hum of incoming messages, pings, and expectations. Often, a simple text notification can trigger a quiet rush of urgency—making us feel like we need to react right this second.

As Thích Nhất Hạnh often reminded us through the practice of mindful breathing, our breath is always here to anchor us back to the present moment. Before you tap that screen to open a message, try pausing for just three conscious breaths.

→ Inhale gently, feeling your shoulders drop away from your ears.
→ Exhale slowly, letting go of the need to fix or reply immediately.
→ Take one more soft breath, allowing your nervous system to settle.

That tiny pause changes everything. It shifts us out of automatic reactivity and lets us respond from a place of quiet clarity. You don’t have to answer the world the exact second it knocks, mate.

🌿

Save this post for the next time your phone lights up during a busy workday, and let us know in the comments how that little pause feels for you.

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠?

Before checking notifications or letting the day rush in, give yourself a few quiet minutes with a warm cup of tea.

Just a moment purely for you, or shared quietly with someone who gets it. No screens, no podcasts, no need to say a word. Simply holding the warm mug, feeling the steam, and taking slow, soft sips.

When we simplify like this, our mind finally gets room to breathe. Together or on your own, the warmth softens the noise, and our energy gently settles right where we are.

Tomorrow morning, let the world wait a little, mate.

A bit of warmth, a slow breath, and a moment of peace. That’s all we really need to begin 🌿

𝐂𝐚𝐧’𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠? 𝐓𝐫𝐲 𝐚 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐤

You know something needs to change. So your head gets busy. What if I get it wrong? Why haven’t I worked this out yet? Round and round it goes, usually around 2am.

I know that loop well. For ages I reckoned that if I thought hard enough, the answer would turn up. It never did. Overthinking isn’t weakness. It’s our mind trying to look after us. It just can’t do this one on its own.

That’s where getting outside helps. In a study by Bratman and colleagues (2015, PNAS), people who walked for 90 minutes in nature worried less afterwards than people who walked along a busy road. 𝑾𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒏’𝒕 𝒂𝒍𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒌 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒂 𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒑, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒘𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒘𝒂𝒍𝒌 𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒊𝒕.

This life force flows through all of us, and through the soil, the trees and the wind. When we step outside and slow down, we tap back into it, and the body softens. Reiki works the same way for me, and it works alongside medical and mental health care.

This week, have a go. Head somewhere green, leave your phone in your pocket, and breathe out a bit slower than you breathe in. You don’t have to solve anything. Just notice what shifts.

Clarity tends to turn up when we stop chasing it. 🌿

"𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭?"

For a long time, I thought I had to choose between isolating myself to feel safe or forcing myself into social settings where I couldn't be me.

Through this work, I realised you can have both.
You can feel deeply safe within your own body, and from that calm space, connect with others in a real, joyful way.

That’s exactly what we practice at the Reclaim Deep Connection Retreat—learning what safety feels like in your body, so you can show up authentically.

A little reminder for you: take a breath, trust yourself, and keep going. You’re stronger than you think, and things will work out. 🤍

Your nervous system doesn't need a big crowd. It just needs a few good people where you can be yourself.

🌿 Smaller circle, lighter mind.

It feels like magic, but there is fascinating science behind it.

In Japan, researchers at Nippon Medical School and Chiba University spent decades studying shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing. They discovered that trees emit natural organic compounds called phytoncides to protect themselves from insects and bacteria.

When we walk near trees and breathe in these phytoncides, our biological state changes. Clinical trials show a significant drop in salivary cortisol (the stress hormone), a reduction in blood pressure, and a surge in Natural Killer (NK) cells that strengthen our immune system.

The brain stops scanning for threat, allowing the parasympathetic nervous system to take over. Your muscles release their holding patterns, and your breathing naturally deepens.

𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲-𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐞, 𝐚 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐲𝐨𝐮.

It does not judge your output or expect you to be productive. In the quiet presence of nature, your body begins to absorb the grounded frequency of the earth.

You do not need a deep forest to experience this biological rest. 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞. 🌿
