What a great Day 1 at the Early Childhood Australia National Conference!
I had many thoughtful conversations with early childhood leaders and services throughout the day. A few highlights from the sessions I attended:
Olof Gränström opened the conference with a thought-provoking reminder to challenge our assumptions, look beyond the headlines and use evidence to better understand the changes shaping our future.
I really enjoyed Sylvana Mahmic and Derek McCormack on empowering parents through culturally responsive co-design, particularly the importance of designing with families rather than for them. It was also so great to catch up with Derek and visit the Raising Children Network stand!
I also loved the intergenerational presentations from Professor Emeritus Ann Farrell, Amanda Treanor, Teame Martin, Sharnee Fancett and Zowie Martin, showing how something as simple and joyful as play can connect generations and strengthen belonging and social cohesion. We all loved the new term of ‘grand-friends’!
Lastly, Stephen Carberry’s Embedded Learning Supports session resonated most with me: embedding meaningful learning opportunities into everyday play, routines and interactions so children with diverse needs can participate and learn alongside their peers. Looking forward to how this work continues to develop! Noah’s Ark Australia
A full first day, with lots to reflect on. Looking forward to Day 2! 🙌🏼
