Your skin is incredibly clever. It leaves clues about what's happening beneath the surface. 🔍

When we only focus on getting rid of a breakout, we can miss what our body is trying to communicate.

Here are five clues I commonly look for in clinic:

✨ Jawline breakouts
May be influenced by hormones, stress, blood sugar or inflammation.

✨ Persistent redness
Could suggest your skin barrier or inflammatory pathways need extra support.

✨ Breakouts alongside digestive symptoms
Your gut and skin are closely connected, so these symptoms are worth exploring together.

✨ Slow healing
Your body may need more nutritional support or there may be underlying inflammation slowing the repair process.

✨ Stress-related flare-ups
Your nervous system and your skin are more connected than you might think.

The key thing to remember?

These signs don't tell us exactly what's wrong. They're simply clues that help us build a clearer picture of what's happening inside your body.

Healing isn't about guessing.

It's about understanding your unique story and supporting the systems that need it most.

💾 Save this post for the next time your skin flares. It might help you ask different questions about what your body is trying to tell you.

Let's stop blaming your hormones for every breakout. 🌿

Hormones can absolutely play a role in skin health.

But they're rarely the whole story.

One of the biggest myths I see is the belief that every breakout is caused by a hormone imbalance. While this can be true for some people, it's often only one piece of a much bigger puzzle.

In clinic, I also consider things like:

✨ Gut health and digestion

✨ Blood sugar regulation

✨ Chronic stress and nervous system health

✨ Nutrient deficiencies

✨ Inflammation

All of these systems are connected, and they influence each other. That's why two people with what looks like "hormonal acne" can have completely different root causes.

Your body doesn't work in isolated systems, so your skin shouldn't be viewed that way either.

When we take a step back and look at the whole picture, we can stop guessing and start creating a plan that's personalised to your body.

If you've been told your acne is "just hormonal" but you feel like there's more to the story, you're not imagining it.

✨ If you're ready to better understand the root causes behind your skin, my free 7-Day Holistic Skin Healing Method Mini Course is a great place to start. It walks you through the exact framework I use in clinic to help uncover the deeper drivers behind my clients persistent skin concerns.

Your skin isn't working against you. It might just be trying to get your attention. 🌿

When your skin flares, it's easy to think it's the problem.

The breakout.
The redness.
The irritation.
The sensitivity.

But what if your skin wasn't the problem at all?

One of the biggest mindset shifts I help my clients make is seeing their skin as a messenger rather than an enemy.

Your skin is closely connected to your gut, hormones, immune system, blood sugar and nervous system. When one or more of these systems is under pressure, your skin is often one of the first places it shows up.

That's why simply changing your skincare routine doesn't always create lasting results.

Your body is incredibly intelligent. Symptoms aren't there to punish you. They're often your body's way of asking for support.

Instead of asking, "How do I get rid of this?" try asking, "What could my body be trying to tell me?"

That simple shift can completely change the way you approach healing.

I'd love to know...

💛 Has your skin ever been the first sign that something deeper was going on?

We live in a world that often teaches us to ignore symptoms.

To push through the fatigue.

To accept painful periods as "normal."

To cover acne with another skincare product.

To believe PMS is just something we have to put up with.

But what if your symptoms weren't your body working against you?
What if they were your body's way of asking for support?

Hormones don't suddenly become "bad."

They're constantly responding to what's happening around them.
✨ Stress.
✨ Sleep.
✨ Nutrition.
✨ Blood sugar.
✨ Gut health.
✨ Thyroid function.
✨ Inflammation.

When one part of the body is struggling, your hormones often respond. And sometimes, those responses show up as symptoms like acne, irregular periods, fatigue, PMS, heavy bleeding or low mood.

Instead of asking...
"How do I get rid of this symptom?"

Try asking...
"What is my body trying to tell me?"

That small shift in perspective can completely change the way you approach your health.

Your symptoms aren't there to annoy you.
They're valuable pieces of information.

They're clues that can help us understand what's happening beneath the surface and guide us towards the right support.

Your body isn't broken.

It's communicating with you every single day.

The question is... are we listening? 💛

I'd love to know - has there ever been a symptom that, looking back, was your body's way of telling you something important?

This is one of the biggest misconceptions I come across in clinic.

Many women assume that if they're getting a monthly bleed, everything must be working as it should.

But our menstrual cycle is a little more complex than that.

Ovulation is when your o***y releases an egg, usually around the middle of your cycle. It's one of the most important signs of hormonal health because it's what triggers the production of progesterone, a hormone that supports your mood, sleep, nervous system and prepares your body for a possible pregnancy.

Without ovulation, you won't produce the same levels of progesterone.
And while it's possible to have a bleed without ovulating, it's not considered a true ovulatory menstrual cycle.

If ovulation isn't happening regularly, you might notice symptoms such as:
✨ Irregular or unpredictable cycles
✨ Spotting before your period
✨ PMS
✨ Difficulty falling pregnant
✨ Acne or ongoing hormonal symptoms

This doesn't automatically mean something is wrong, but it is your body's way of asking for a closer look.

Rather than simply asking, "Am I getting a period?", a better question is:
"Am I ovulating consistently?"

Understanding the difference can provide valuable insight into your hormonal health and help uncover why you're experiencing certain symptoms.

Your menstrual cycle isn't just something to get through each month.
It's one of your body's most powerful health report cards. 💛

Have you ever tracked your cycle beyond your period dates? Let me know in the comments.

Hormones don't work alone.

So why do we often treat them like they do?

One of the biggest misconceptions I see is that hormones exist in their own little bubble.

The reality is, they're constantly communicating with the rest of your body.
Your hormones are influenced by...

🥦 Your gut – Your gut microbiome plays an important role in hormone metabolism and overall inflammation.

😴 Your sleep – Poor sleep can influence cortisol, blood sugar regulation and reproductive hormones.

🍳 Your nutrition – Your body needs adequate protein, healthy fats and key nutrients to produce and regulate hormones effectively.

🧠 Your nervous system – Chronic stress doesn't just affect your mind. It can influence ovulation, digestion, thyroid function and hormone signalling throughout the body.

🩸 Your blood sugar – Frequent spikes and crashes in blood sugar can impact insulin, which can then affect other hormones, including those involved in ovulation and skin health.

This is why I never look at hormones in isolation.

If you're experiencing acne, painful periods, fatigue, irregular cycles or PMS, the answer isn't always to "fix" your hormones.

Sometimes the real question is...
What's influencing them in the first place?

When we support the body as a whole, rather than chasing individual symptoms, we often create the conditions for our hormones to function the way they were designed to.

Because your body isn't a collection of separate systems.
It's one beautifully connected ecosystem, and every part influences the next. 💛

Have you ever been told your symptoms were "just hormonal" without anyone looking at the bigger picture? I'd love to hear your experience below.

Meet your hormone team. 💛

When we hear the word hormones, it's easy to think of them as one big system.

But the truth is, each hormone has a unique role to play, and they all work together to help your body function at its best.

Here's a simple way to remember them:

🌸 Oestrogen – The Builder
Supports your menstrual cycle, skin, bones, brain and collagen production. It also helps build the lining of your uterus each month.

🌙 Progesterone – The Calmer
Produced after ovulation, progesterone helps support a calm nervous system, restful sleep and prepares the body for pregnancy.

⚡ Testosterone – The Motivator
Yes, women need testosterone too! It plays an important role in energy, muscle strength, confidence and libido.

🔥 Cortisol – The Protector
Often called the "stress hormone," cortisol isn't the enemy. It's designed to help you respond to stress. The challenge is when stress becomes chronic and your body doesn't get the chance to switch off.

🦋 Thyroid Hormones – The Pace Setter
Think of your thyroid as your body's engine. These hormones help regulate your metabolism, energy, body temperature, digestion and even your menstrual cycle.

The important thing to remember?

No hormone works in isolation.

They're constantly communicating with each other and with the rest of your body.

That's why when one hormone is struggling, it can have a ripple effect throughout your entire system.

Your hormones aren't working against you.

They're working for you, and understanding what each one does is the first step towards understanding your body.

What if I told you your hormones are talking to you every single day.

Not just during your period.

Not just when you're pregnant.

Not just when you're experiencing PMS.

Every. Single. Day.

Your hormones are chemical messengers. Think of them like text messages travelling around your body, carrying important instructions.

They tell your ovaries when to release an egg.

They tell your uterus when to build and shed its lining.

They help regulate your energy, mood, sleep, metabolism, skin, digestion, fertility and so much more.

When these messages are flowing clearly, your body tends to feel balanced.

But when communication is disrupted, whether by chronic stress, poor sleep, under-eating, nutrient deficiencies or other underlying factors, your body starts sending signals that something needs attention.

Those signals might look like:
✨ Persistent acne
✨ PMS
✨ Fatigue
✨ Irregular periods
✨ Mood changes
✨ Hair loss
✨ Low libido

Your hormones aren't trying to make your life difficult.

They're trying to communicate with you.

And the more you understand their language, the easier it becomes to understand what your body is asking for.

This is exactly why I love educating women about their hormones. Because when you understand why your body is responding the way it is, you can move away from fear and frustration and towards clarity and confidence.

Here's something that often surprises people.

You can spend hundreds of dollars on probiotics, but if you're not feeding the beneficial bacteria already living in your gut, you're missing a really important piece of the puzzle.

Think of it this way...

🦠 Probiotics are the beneficial bacteria.

🥦 Prebiotics are the food that helps those bacteria grow and thrive.

Without prebiotics, your gut bacteria have very little to feed on.

One of the best ways to support your microbiome isn't necessarily buying another supplement. It's eating a wide variety of fibre-rich plant foods.

Some of my favourites include:
✨ Oats
✨ Garlic and onions
✨ Legumes
✨ Asparagus
✨ Apples
✨ Kiwi

Every type of plant fibre feeds different groups of beneficial bacteria, which is why diversity is one of the best things you can aim for.

That doesn't mean you need to overhaul your diet overnight.

Sometimes it's as simple as adding one extra serve of vegetables to dinner or trying a new fruit each week.

Supporting your gut doesn't always have to start with a supplement.
Often, it starts with what's already on your plate. 💚

What's one fibre-rich food you love? Share it below—I’m always looking for new ideas to add to my own meals! 🌿

"I've been taking a probiotic for months... so why hasn't anything changed?"

This is something I hear from new clients in clinic all the time.

The truth is, probiotics aren't a magic pill.

If you've been taking one without noticing a difference, it doesn't necessarily mean probiotics "don't work." It may simply mean they're not addressing the root cause of your symptoms.

Here are a few reasons why:

✨ You're taking the wrong strain.
Different probiotic strains have different roles. There's no single probiotic that's right for everyone.

✨ Your gut bacteria don't have enough to feed on.
Without enough prebiotic fibre from foods like oats, legumes, fruit and vegetables, beneficial bacteria struggle to thrive.

✨ Stress is disrupting your gut.
Your nervous system and gut are constantly communicating. Chronic stress can influence digestion, gut motility and the health of your microbiome.

✨ There's an underlying issue that needs attention first.
Conditions like SIBO, histamine intolerance or other digestive imbalances may require a different approach before introducing probiotics.

✨ You're treating the symptom instead of the cause.
Supplements can absolutely be helpful, but they're only one piece of the puzzle.

This is why I always look at the bigger picture.

Your skin, gut, hormones, stress levels and lifestyle all work together, and understanding that connection is often where real healing begins.
