Meet Emma Osland, a member of the research team undertaking a study looking at oral health in long-term enteral feeding. In this video, Emma shares information about the study and invites eligible people to take part.

Researchers from the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and University of Queensland are undertaking a study seeking to better understand oral health for people who are tube fed and to identify ways healthcare services can provide better support in the future.

You may be eligible to take part if you or the person you care for are:
• 18 years or older,
• have been receiving tube feeding outside of hospital for at least three months, and
• live in Australia.

Taking part involves completing a one-off on-line or paper-based questionnaire that will take about 20-30mins to complete.

If you’re interested in taking part more information and the online survey can be found at https://redcap.link/tubefeedoralhealth. To receive a paper copy of the study materials or for any questions you have about the study, you are invited to contact [email protected]

Helping children understand what to expect in hospital or learn about tube feeding can make it easier for families to start conversations in an age-appropriate way.

Townsville mum, author and disability advocate Casey Vinen has created five children’s books to help. Her latest book, The Hospital That Helps, uses warm, reassuring language to help young children understand hospital visits and procedures, and feel more comfortable about what to expect.

Casey has also written four books about PEG feeding, helping children, siblings and classroom communities better understand tube feeding and encouraging awareness and inclusion.

All five books are available as free read-aloud videos on YouTube, providing an accessible way for families, schools, childcare centres and healthcare professionals to share these stories with children.

Today is International Mastocytosis and Mast Cell Diseases Day.

This year's theme, Unnoticed. Unmistakable., shines a light on the realities of living with a mast cell activation disorder (MCAD), often invisible to others but unmistakable to those living with it.

Throughout today, TAMS has been sharing the faces and words of people from the TAMS community who have generously opened up about their experiences. Behind every face is a person, a family, a story and a life that deserves to be seen, heard and understood.

We’re pleased to support TAMS in raising awareness and recognising the people and families in our communities affected by these conditions.

We encourage you to visit the TAMS. The Australasian MCAD Society. page to read the stories being shared today.

We are pleased to share that ausEE Inc. has awarded grant funding of $10,000 to Associate Professor Usha Krishnan, Dr Steven Leach and Dr Michael Coffey from UNSW Sydney and Sydney Children’s Hospital, as a contribution to their research project titled ‘Identifying the oesophageal microbiome associated with Eosinophilic Oesophagitis in children with Oesophageal Atresia’.

The aim of this study is to identify alterations in the oesophageal microbiome that may be associated with an increased risk for Eosinophilic Oesophagitis (EoE) in children and adolescents with Oesophageal Atresia (OA). Studying the microbiome in OA patients with EoE will also help us understand the pathophysiology of EoE in all patients and, in turn, could lead to optimised individualised treatment and improved outcomes.

The support of our donors and participants in our annual Top 8 Challenge fundraising campaign helps make research projects like this possible.

If you’d like to help us support more research, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to the ausEE Medical Research Fund: https://www.givenow.com.au/auseemrf

A cough lasting more than 8 weeks in adults or 4 weeks in children is considered a chronic cough.

Chronic cough can have different causes and may be associated with conditions such as asthma, sinusitis, gastro-oesophageal reflux and eosinophilic bronchitis. For some people, it persists even after underlying conditions have been investigated and treated.

Recognising chronic cough and its impact can help improve understanding, diagnosis and care.

As a member of the Global Allergy & Airways Patient Platform (GAAPP), ausEE supports this year's World Chronic Cough Day campaign.
