Meeting the Team: Deb
I often wonder what I want to share here.
Not just as a Support Coordinator.
As me.
After working in the NDIS space for six years, I’ve learnt that support coordination is rarely just about services, plans and funding.
Behind every NDIS plan is a person with their own goals, challenges, strengths and hopes for the future.
Behind every support is a person trying to live their life, maintain their independence, and have choice and control over the things that matter to them.
Somewhere in the middle sits a Support Coordinator.
For me, that role is not about simply connecting people with services or ticking boxes.
It’s about understanding the bigger picture.
It’s about listening, advocating, communicating clearly, and helping people navigate what can often feel like a very complicated system.
It’s also about building relationships -with participants, families, support workers, allied health professionals and providers -and making sure everyone is working towards the same goal.
Over the years, I’ve also worked as an interior designer, a Gemologist, and in real estate. Looking back, each of these experiences has shaped how I approach support coordination and how I communicate with people. They’ve taught me to really see detail, to listen carefully, and to understand that every person’s story is layered and unique.
I’ve learnt that people want to feel heard.
They want clarity.
They want honesty.
They want someone to follow things through.
And most importantly, they want to know that someone genuinely cares about the person behind the plan.
So any updates from me on this page won’t be simply about the NDIS system.
Instead, I’ll be sharing insights from my experience as a Support Coordinator - lessons about communication and relationships, navigating NDIS supports and funding, advocacy, working alongside providers and allied health, and most importantly, the human side of support coordination.
Because at the end of the day, it’s not really about the plan.
It’s about the person.
