You tried cutting out certain foods to work out the latest food intolerance you seem to have developed, but it hasn’t made a difference.

You tried a few practitioners and tried other approaches, and you’re tired of starting again.

Your doctor has mentioned high cholesterol, insulin resistance, and pre-diabetes as risks now, and you need to do something about it.

You want to feel clear-headed, light and alive again, but you know that it’s not going to be an overnight fix.

You know you need some thing that will actually help, and someone to help you make sense of it all.

I know what it's like when your body feels unfamiliar…

Eighteen months after my son was born, I was diagnosed with severe hyperthyroidism, and early perimenopause arrived at the same time. My body felt unfamiliar. And it was frightening.

Herbs, personalised nutrition and lifestyle changes are how I rebuilt my health, and they’re what I’ve used with clients for over 10 years as a fully qualified herbalist and certified Metabolic Balance® coach.

I live in the Blue Mountains, NSW, and support women across Australia through personalised online care.

Book up a 30-minute complimentary clarity call. It's via Google Meet (video call) so we can put a face to a name and see if we would be a good fit. :)

My latest blog is my personal story.

I've been living with chronic sinusitis since March 2025. It has had a really bad effect on my quality of life, as anyone who has had this or suffering this. Let me explain.

I've experienced difficulty breathing through my nose, waking with an insanely dry mouth and throat, post nasal drip that causes coughing, and constant throat-clearing every morning.

I’ve had standard GP allergy blood tests for grass, mould, pollen and dust, blood tests to rule out certain cancers, an X-ray of my lungs, a CT scan of my sinuses, and an endoscope passed up my nose by an ENT.

Whilst it is reassuring to know that there are no allergies, no polyps, and nothing sinister, the ongoing problem still remains unanswered by the GP and the ENT.

The worst part about all this is, and how it has affected my life so much, is that it has caused sleep apnoea. This means that I have had chronically disturbed sleep for nearly 18 months at the time of writing this.

Knowing what I know about disturbed sleep, this places me at a far higher risk of having a stroke, or developing cardiovascular disease. And having a young child makes this part very worrying.

Being in perimenopause, I asked the GP at the time if it could possibly be linked. He emphatically denied it. I knew he was wrong, because I had already noticed the severity of nose stuffiness fluctuating with each passing month, and during the month.

But after leaving no stone unturned in my own investigations, I realised how wrong he was.

You can read more about my findings in my latest blog here: https://treeofhealth.com.au/histamine-intolerance-perimenopause/

You know you're in perimenopause when...

Your brain fog has become really embarrassing – you can’t even remember the basic names for things during conversations, even when you can see them in your head! They Just.
Don’t.
Come.
Out.

You get really overwhelmed by things that once felt manageable, which then makes you anxious because you’ve realised that you’re not coping with everyday things anymore.

The perimenopause weight gain around your middle just won’t shift, whatever you try – more exercise, juice cleanses, 7-day detoxes, everything ChatGPT suggested. Your body just doesn’t respond like it used to.

You’ve been waking in the early hours, sometimes covered in sweat, other times you just cannot go back to sleep.

Your cycle has become very unpredictable, very heavy, and very annoying – you’ve ruined your favourite pair of jeans twice in the last three months.

I'm Julia from Tree of Health.

I support women in perimenopause to get their energy back, clear the brain fog, and get their body responding again, using herbal medicine, a personalised Metabolic Balance nutrition plan, and Buteyko breathing techniques.

Is AI becoming the new Dr Google - and should we be worried?

I have been thinking about this a lot lately, both as a naturopathic herbalist and as a woman in perimenopause who has spent some time this year researching her own symptoms (more on that in a later post!).

AI is genuinely useful. I use it myself for research. But there is a gap between what it can do and what most people think it can do - and in health, that gap has consequences.

The one that concerns me most professionally is people using AI to decide which herbs to take. Herbs are pharmacologically active. They interact with medications. Research has documented herb-drug interactions.

AI does not know your medication list, your full history, or which herb is right for your specific picture.

I have written a full blog post on this - what AI does well, where it genuinely falls short, and why seeing a qualified practitioner is not just a nice-to-have.

Would love to know your thoughts - are you seeing this in your own circles? Patients, friends, family turning to AI before seeking proper advice?
