People’s circumstances can change over time, and the support that works well at one point may not always be the right fit later on.

Changes in routines, abilities, living arrangements or daily activities may be signs that it’s worth looking at whether current supports are still meeting someone’s needs.

Having an open conversation about what is and isn’t working can help identify where adjustments may be needed.

At Emerald Care Services, we take these changes into account when working with participants, families and their support teams.

National Carers Week is a time to recognise the people who provide unpaid care and support to family members, friends and loved ones.

Caring can be a big part of everyday life, often alongside work, family and other responsibilities.

This year’s theme, Care for a Carer: Making Carers Visible, encourages us to recognise carers and the important role they play.

Sometimes, a simple check-in, a helping hand or taking the time to listen can make a difference.

Recovering from an injury can affect everyday routines, activities, and plans.

For people receiving support through TAC or WorkSafe, practical assistance can help make day-to-day activities more manageable while they work towards recovery.

This may include support with routines, getting to appointments, staying connected with the community, or gradually returning to usual activities where appropriate.

At Emerald Care Services, we provide support that works alongside a person’s circumstances and existing recovery plan.

World Cerebral Palsy Day is an opportunity to recognise the experiences and voices of people living with cerebral palsy.

This year’s campaign celebrates what makes each person unique and highlights the importance of coming together to create greater inclusion and change.

At Emerald Care Services, we believe good support starts with listening, respecting individual choices, and recognising the person behind the support they receive.

Today, we stand with the cerebral palsy community and support a more inclusive world where everyone has a voice.

October is National Safe Work Month, a time for workplaces across Australia to focus on creating safe and healthy working environments.

In care and support work, safety is part of the day-to-day. Support workers may work across homes, communities and different environments, where recognising risks and working safely can make a real difference.

This year’s theme, Safe work is for life, is a reminder that workplace safety isn’t just about preventing injuries today — it’s about protecting people’s health and wellbeing over the long term.

From 1 October 2026, some NDIS budget changes will start being introduced as participants’ plans are reassessed or renewed.

One of the changes relates to funding for social, civic and community participation supports and capacity-building daily activities.

Importantly, these changes won’t automatically apply to everyone on 1 October. They will be introduced progressively as plans are reviewed.

If you’re a participant, family member or support coordinator, it’s worth staying informed and checking what applies to your plan.

Talking about dementia can sometimes feel difficult. People may worry about saying the wrong thing, not knowing how to respond, or simply not knowing enough about dementia.

Starting the conversation can help reduce stigma and make it easier for people living with dementia, their families, and carers to feel understood and supported.

A simple conversation, responding with patience, or taking the time to listen can help someone feel included and connected.
