Re: the vague plans for a Covid Conscious Sydney Halloween event

Hey everyone - apologies to disappoint anyone or ruin plans, but after almost 3 weeks of unresolved issues with their booking system, City of Sydney only finally approved on Friday the booking of the usual Darlington venue for Halloween (31st Oct) - however, as 1 person running this while juggling full time work, night classes, assignments to finish, ADHD assessment appts, tax return to do, among other things before the 31st (while of course recognising my privilege here as a non-disabled person) I’m a little exhausted by the idea of still needing to organise this event.

So, I’m thinking of just cancelling the booking, unless anyone reading this wants to organise something at the venue themselves that day? (Could be used for anything.) I could possibly still assist with some things (can offer my air purifier, some of the usual supplies I bring etc) but don’t want to commit to too much right now.

The booking is currently from 12pm-6pm (I’d planned to make the event 1.00-5.30pm to account for set up & pack up.)

If anyone wants to take over, let me know otherwise I’ll cancel the booking in the next few days. If multiple people are interested, I can put you in a group chat to organise. Feel free to message me or email [email protected]

About me: I am a quiet spoonie who works from home most days. I’m out of the house a fair bit as I like to go swimming and gymming after work and on my days off. I tend to socialise outdoors as well for covid safety reasons.

I spend roughly half my weekends at my partner’s place and they spend every other weekend at mine. My partner has two dogs, which I occasionally babysit as well as them visiting every other weekend. They are okay with confident cats and small dogs.

About you: preferably someone q***r, early 30s to late 40s, who’s quiet at home and has hobbies and interests outside the house a few days a week, loves dogs and takes covid precautions.

Covid stuff: I wear N95s in all indoor public settings, crowded outdoor settings and pluslife (portable home PCR) fortnightly.

I run air purifiers in my bedroom, the bathroom and the kitchen.

I’m as vaxxed as possible at all times. My partner lives in a covid safe share house with stricter precautions hence the regular testing. Ideally we will be able to match our precautions.

The room will be available mid August. I am open to continuing this lease if I can find the right person, or moving somewhere else.

House/room info: The house is not wheelchair accessible. There are 2 steps at the front, 6 steps at the back and 2 steps at the side gate. The shower is over the bath.

The room is 3x3m with wall to wall built ins, high ceilings and lots of natural light. Rent is based on room size with the available room being the largest.

The house is recently updated with vinyl plank flooring in shared areas, a big kitchen and bath/shower, separate laundry.

There’s a fully fenced courtyard out the back with a small garden and hills hoist. The room is right on enmore road so best if you find traffic noise soothing. Street parking only.

The house is 2 bus stops away from Newtown station and the closest bus stop is 160m away.
Also close to enmore theatre and kellerman aquatic centre.

My decoration expertise ends at 17 houseplants so you are welcome to furnish and decorate the shared areas with your own stuff if you like.

Let’s chat!! This will be a great way to make local CC friends, chat together about anything and everything, and organise future virtual and/or in-person meetups. Comment “invite” to be sent an invite link, or DM us 🙂

Reason for using Fluxer is due to a few recent ethical concerns with Discord - you can look into their data collection and breaches and new CEO. Fluxer is quite new and looks and works very similarly to Discord, but more focused on privacy, open source etc.

The official mobile app isn’t out just yet (apparently will be soon), but there is an easy way to install the mobile web version as an app on your phone if you like, which works well - instructions are on the Fluxer website as well as in the announcements channel in our Fluxer server 🙂 The website also works well on desktop, and there are Windows, Mac and Linux desktop apps available.

📣 Excited!! 👀 This is a casual gathering to make chains/jewellery for our (respirator) masks and/or decorate them in other ways! 🤩 Water-free transfers for decorating will be provided as well as supplies for making mask chains! 😷

Hi everyone, apologies this change is so last-minute! Been hoping the rain forecast for Saturday would ease a little, but unfortunately it looks as though it will still be bucketing down on Saturday 😭 And have been unable to find an alternative undercover outdoor meetup spot in time that ticks all the boxes. Just added!! 😊 Please check all the details and requirements on the Eventbrite page (https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/covid-conscious-masked-meetup-at-campo-park-tickets-1979973475966?aff=oddtdtcreator), and RSVP/register if you can make it! There will also be a meetup on Sat 7 Feb - it may be at the same location, but if anyone can suggest another park that has better shade coverage and an accessible toilet, please let me know!
