Behaviour Is Communication 👉👉But What Is It Saying?
When a person displays behaviours of concern, it's easy to focus on what they're doing. Positive Behaviour Support encourages us to ask a different question:
"What is this behaviour communicating?"
Behaviour often serves a purpose. It may be a way of:
• Communicating an unmet need.
• Escaping a situation that feels overwhelming.
• Coping with pain, anxiety, or sensory overload.
• Expressing frustration when communication is difficult.
• Seeking predictability, safety, or connection.
Instead of asking, "How do we stop this behaviour?" we ask, "Why is this happening, and what support does this person need?"
When we understand the reason behind behaviour, we can teach safer skills, reduce distress, and improve quality of life—without relying on punishment.
At Kennix Care, we believe every behaviour tells a story. Our role is to understand that story and develop person-centred, evidence-based strategies that empower individuals and support the people around them.
💙 Every person deserves to be understood, not judged.
