Did you know our pharmacy technicians do way more than dispense medicines. Their job extends far beyond counting tablets, preparing labels and sorting medicines.

They are well trained to ensure the safe distribution of controlled high-risk medications as well as ordering, storing and monitoring thousands of pharmaceutical products. A pharmacy technician’s role is ever changing and expanding so let’s celebrate all they do!

We wanted to share patient Stephen Richardson’s story and the thanks extended to Royal Perth Hospital’s ICU and Ward 6G teams by his family. Stephen spent nearly 500 days on the wards before he passed away.

His family were particularly thankful to staff who helped organise a surprise to bring Steve’s beloved dog, Archie, to the hospital.

“Seeing Archie lifted him enormously,” the family wrote.

“Things like that showed us that you weren't simply caring for a patient – you cared about him…. what you did for our family will stay with us for the rest of our lives.
‘Thank you’ somehow doesn't feel big enough for what you gave Dad and what you gave us. Please know that it comes from the bottom of our hearts, and that what you did for our family will stay with us for the rest of our lives.”

🏆 We're celebrating a big win for our eyecare team! 🎉

A massive congratulations to Royal Perth Hospital's Accessible Collaborative Community Eyecare Service (ACCES) team, who were crowned Allied Health Team of the Year at last night's 2026 WA Excellence in Allied Health Awards! 👏

Working alongside The University of Western Australia and the Lions Eye Institute, this incredible team is helping more Western Australians access timely glaucoma care, reducing waiting times to a median of just 23 days and virtually clearing the backlog of overdue patients. It's a fantastic example of what can be achieved when healthcare, education and research come together to make a difference in our community. 💙

Congratulations to the entire ACCES team on this well-deserved award!

You can hear tales about pioneering medicine, historic buildings and the people who shaped healthcare in Western Australia.

Finish the tour by visiting the amazing Royal Perth Hospital Museum.

Former RPH Director of Clinical Services Bill Beresford and RPH volunteer Margaret Baker helped design this free tour and train guides, so please support it.

Members of the Perth based group Ladies Connecting (pictured here) were among the inaugural tour group last week.
