If you see a big scary spider on the wall, it might make you uncomfortable.
But you know it’s there. You can watch it. You can deal with it.

But how do you feel if it suddenly drops from view behind a couch or a cupboard?

That’s when the real discomfort starts.

Now you’re on edge. Alert. Uneasy.
Not because of what you can see — but because of what you can’t.

Our emotions can work the same way.

When you’re aware of something — a feeling, a belief, a past experience — you can handle it. It’s visible. It has a place.

But the ones you’re not aware of?
They’re the ones that can quietly influence your life.
They show up as triggers, anxiety, overreactions, or patterns you can’t explain.

You just know something doesn’t feel right.

Once those hidden emotional drivers are brought into awareness and handled, the tension disappears.
Not because you forced yourself to cope…
…but because there’s nothing left hiding in the background.

Awareness brings calm.
The unknown creates the unease.

As John Mace said “We are only affected by what we are unaware of”

“Our kids should be able to take our love for granted.”
When I first heard this I thought “that sounds a bit cold” but as I read on the author explained that our kids shouldn’t have to worry about whether we love them or not. Whether their behaviour dictates how much love we give them. They should be able to just live their lives and never have to worry about something like that. After all we love our kids unconditionally don’t we?

“I’m not good enough”
“I’m a failure”
“I am worthless”.

These are some of the real beliefs people have running behind the scenes shaping their choices, relationships and influencing their lives.

Imagine trying to do your best in life when there is an echo in the background reminding you every single time you try something “You’re not enough” or “You’re not worthy.

Carrying these beliefs around can literally feel like carrying extra weight. People often describe to me their feelings with words like ‘heavy and foggy’ and afterwards they generally say they feel ‘light, clear and relieved’. Interestingly we tend to associate the more negative feelings with a sense of heaviness and the positive feelings are lighter.

Living your day to day with heavy feelings and limiting beliefs on repeat can get very tiring. Time doesn’t heal these emotional wounds, it only buries them deeper for them to spring out of the ground (triggered) when you least expect them to or want them to.

Once these limiting beliefs are dealt with for good, the clarity that comes as a result is something I wish everyone could experience.

I helped a woman recently who had a huge trigger come up at work.
Someone said something to her — and honestly, it wasn’t a nice comment in any context — but instead of brushing it off, she went straight to boiling point. She said it felt instant and overwhelming.

In our session, we dug into the feeling behind that reaction, not the story.
Afterwards she realised it reminded her of things she used to hear in school… comments that were so normal back then that she never realised how much they stuck with her.

Once we cleared the emotion that was driving the reaction, the whole trigger disappeared.

The next day she messaged me and said,
“That same person said something again… and it didn’t affect me at all. No reaction. I actually felt calm.”

You can’t change other people, but you can change how they affect you.

You get a headache out of nowhere, what do you do? Let’s say you have a paracetamol so you can get on with your day. We’ll call it a one-off

What if you started having that same headache every day? Do you just keep taking a pill?
Let’s face it, drugs don’t actually ‘heal’ anything, they just suppress symptoms, which is your body’s way of trying to tell you something is not right.

Now replace the headache with daily bouts of anxiety/stress/depression. Just like the headache they’re also trying to tell you something, and suppressing them is like ignoring alarms on your car. The longer you ignore them the worse it may get.
