Why your breath might be keeping you wired
Most of us don't think about how we breathe. It just happens.
But here's something I wish I'd known years ago: your breath is one of the few things that talks directly to your nervous system. It goes both ways.
When you're stressed, your breathing changes. And when you change your breathing, your body starts to settle.
When life is full (and whose isn't?), many of us slip into fast, shallow breathing through the mouth, high in the chest.
Your body reads that as "something's wrong, stay alert." Do that all day, for years, and it's no wonder so many of us feel tired but wired, especially at 3am.
Breathing slowly, through your nose, with a longer out-breath does the opposite. It sends the message: you're safe, you can rest now. Your nose also filters, warms and moistens the air on its way in. It's what it was designed for.
None of this is new. People have known about it for thousands of years. Now science is catching up and explaining why.
The best bit? It's free, it goes everywhere with you, and no one even knows you're doing it. In the car. In the waiting room. Lying awake.
That's what Saturday's session is about. One hour where you'll learn what your breath is doing, and practise a simple way of breathing you can use for the rest of your life.
🌿 Seated, breathing through the nose. No experience needed.
🌿 Plain English, nothing weird.
🌿 A room of local women.
