How to assess an enlarged left o***y on ultrasonography,
look at:
O***y size/volume:
measure 3 dimensions
(L × W × AP) and calculate volume ≈ 0.523 × L × W × AP.
Morphology:
solid, cystic, or mixed.
Follicles: number, size, distribution, and whether they are peripheral or scattered.
Stroma: normal, increased echogenicity, or heterogeneous.
Doppler: vascularity and, if torsion is suspected, compare with the right o***y.
Free fluid: amount and appearance in the pelvis.
Any focal lesion: cyst, hemorrhagic cyst, endometrioma, dermoid, or solid mass.
Common causes of an enlarged o***y
include a functional/hemorrhagic cyst,
polycystic ovarian morphology,
endometrioma,
benign ovarian tumor,
or—in an acute painful presentation—ovarian torsion.
