10 Cancer Myths Debunked

This article by Guest Blogger Oliver Childs says everything I would like all my very helpful friends to know. I know several people with cancer who have refused medical treatment because they believe these myths. Remember, when people spread these myths and give them as "helpful advice" they may be killing people. ~G. William Google ‘cancer’ and you’ll be faced with millions of web pages. OUR GOAL: To deliver life dreams and bucket list wishes to adult Canadians with life-threatening illness. The movie that made "Bucket List" a household phrase was inspirational, but Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman were working with a $45,000,000.00 budget.  Give us a fraction of that and we wi...

How baseball fights cancer.

I am emerging from round eight of chemotherapy. Slowly, painfully and with almost zero energy left, I am nevertheless emerging. Every round it takes a few days longer to recover from being poisoned. I’m pretty sure the medical protocol here is to keep poisoning the patient until they damn near kill him and hope [ 433 more words. ]

Omar Mateen was a victim.

I would have written earlier but I have been in literary shock since hearing of the horrible murders in Orlando. I couldn’t bring myself to write my usual glib attack on the world of cancer and its poisonous treatments. Not while the world around me was staggering in shock and horror over yet another despicable shooting rampage. Yet I didn’t feel equipped to write about the subject itself. [ 709 more words. ]

5 Great Things About Having Cancer

Everybody thinks having cancer is all doom and gloom; that survival is the only consideration and occupies every thought and action. Not true, I say! There are benefits to being the sick one that give you a leg up over all those healthy people running around just living their lives. I can think of at least 5 great things about having cancer. I stumbled upon this poem on Facebook this morning. I don't like to use such things without giving the author credit but I can't seem to find that information, so I'll use it and hope someone can tell me who wrote it. Bonnie Ken has commented on our GoFundMe page:

"Ever since I was diagnosed with Leukemia, I've wished that I was a child again and put my name on the Cildren's Wish List....I've been in the cancer ring for 8 years now....I've been living on oral chemotherapy drugs the whole time....they've had dramatic and life altering side affects throughout these years....there are only 3 of them and I've had all 3 of them stopped due to the medical complications that they've caused....my blood results were stable through these years but now it's as serious as when I was diagnosed....I'm running out of options to control my disease and I'm afraid I'm going to have to decide quality of life over quantity of life....I've been a rock through this journey mentally but my rock is starting to show small cracks from the toxic chemical environment I've been in for 8 years....it's wonderful to see that there's a bucket list foundation for those of us still fighting the fight."

Bonnie is EXACTLY why we are doing this. Lets double our efforts to get the Foundation up and running!

Darlene Kells commented on our GoFundMe page, she says,

"I know all too well how this feels, I'm now doing my 3rd bout with cancer, this time its inoperable, the last time I was 23 and the time before that I was 21.

The past 3 years of pure hell started in Feb 2013 when my beloved Mom passed away while on vacation, that was the start of my hell....when my dad arrived home with my moms ashes it was clear he was not right and ended up with Dementia & PTSD. I became his caregiver, I kept him in his own house because he didn't want to leave and I promised him I wouldn't make him, for 23 months I looked after him thru all his rages, hallucinations and many other very bad things.

He passed Jan 2015, 5 days later I was hospitalized with a COPD episode which I've had for 8 years, then last may I got the lung cancer diagnoses. I'm still trying to deal with my dads estate, my husband had lost his job and at 64 isn't finding anything, I'm on CPP disability and we are not doing great.

The only saving grace is I'm now on palliative care so I get all my medications for free and my oxygen is free. We have no RRSP'S or pensions and are trying to live the best we can on under $1700./month our mortgage is $1200.

So I get all that people are going thru one could only wish the government started worrying about all the people who live way under the poverty line who truly need help. If I could give a donation I certainly would. Thank you for what you are trying to do and I hope you help a lot of deserving people in the years to come. ♥"

If you are as moved as I am by Darlene's words, dedicate YOUR donation to her and her dad. ~George

Beth Jago commented on our GoFundMe page, she says,

"This is such a wonderful idea! When my husband was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer all his doctors said the same thing - 'don't wait, do any bucket-listy things while you're feeling good' But with my husband going on disability & me missing work to take care of him paying the mortgage & bills didn't leave much $$$ for the bucket list."

Trudi Johnstone commented on our GoFundMe page, She says

"This is a wonderful idea. I was diagnosed July 2014 with Breast Cancer, spent a lot of time at the Abbotsford Cancer Centre. I am almost 2 years cancer free now and it does change your life mentally and financially....I know I could sure use a vacation after going through that myself."
