Peace Lily Path- Counseling Services Hello! The co-founders are Faye Fraser and Alison Guthro. Once you enter, you will take a quick left and we are the first door on the left side.

Peace Lily Path is a private mental health practice offering integrated and team-oriented therapeutic services that include talk therapy, specialized treatments, advocacy, and resource referrals. We are located in the Heatherton Community Centre, Avon Room, which is best accessed through the doors furthest from the highway (toward the church). We can be found at the following address:
42 Summerside Rd., Heatherton, NS, B0H 1R0. We offer individual, family, and couples counselling, which includes a variety of modalities and theoretical frameworks. We frequently use Psychodynamic and Attachment therapy, Polyvagal Theory, Safe and Sound Protocol, Rest and Repair Protocol, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance-Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Existential therapy, and Solutions-Focused Counselling. Person-centred, strengths-based, and culturally responsive counselling underpins all the support that we provide. We work with and welcome people across the lifespan and cultural landscape, from toddlers to seniors, with a special passion for children and adolescents. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, trauma history, disability and systems barriers, re-building disrupted relationships between caregivers and children (youth or adult children), facilitating identity change and growth, navigating behaviours that challenge in children, parent and caregiver wellness, workplace burnout, and intimate partner violence. We frequently support individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, panic disorders, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Borderline Personality disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder and neurodivergence, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, suicidal ideation, and Postpartum Anxiety and Depression. Our approach to therapeutic services is cultivated based on the needs of the folks that we work with, and bridging the gap when this varies between participants in a family unit. Our work with youth involves finding adaptive ways to support their ability to succeed, while removing harsh labels and mobilizing their team of support in and outside of the home. We prioritize non-judgemental and compassionate counselling provision for adults experiencing stressful life events or diagnostics. We ask for patience from our Peace Lily Path clients as we navigate the newly minted operation of our Part-Time mental health practice. Due to capacity, we will do our best to respond to requests and concerns in a timely manner, but you may experience a wait longer than 24 hours resulting from the demands of our adjacent non-profit employment. Peace Lily Path will become more than counselling services, with our vision manifesting into community action, parent groups, and therapeutic programming for youth. This will encompass holistic elements gaining traction in wellness spheres such as horticulture, art, mindfulness, and somatic processes. The sentiment "We Are All A Work in Progress" strikes true for us as clinicians, meaning that we, alongside our clients, will commit to a lifetime of learning and growth to better the offerings of our practice.

Last week we had another creative and fun two day camp! Our activities were infused with magic and nature! Participants created a "wish tree" where they used their creativity to yarn bomb our tree and add wishes for themselves, their families and the world. They created nests and talked about the symbolism about what we might need in our own "nests". They choose between a wide range of flowers and saw the magic of using hammers to pound the natural pigment of flowers onto fabric. Throughout both days, they checked in with their "magic maps" to identify and reflect on how they were feeling. They identified the emotions that might fit at different areas of their individual magic maps. This is just a taste of how much fun we are having! We can't wait for our next camps coming up soon!

**We are excited to have our "Wish Tree" available for others to add to at our office location at the Heatherton Community Centre. 🌳🌟

We’re proud to be period-friendly!

Being period-friendly means showing up for our community in a real, tangible way. When we support access to menstrual products, we support dignity, health, and inclusion. On this Menstrual Health Day, we’re celebrating the spaces making a difference and the organizations advocating for menstrual equity. We invite you to join us!

Summer Fun at Peace Lily Path! Deadline to register for our camps is June 5th, you don't want to miss out!

In case you were curious, here are some questions and answers!

Are the camps just for kids or youth who come to therapy?
- NO! These camps are for any kid or youth, you don't need to be currently attending therapy at PLP or elsewhere to attend these camps.

Are the camps just for kids or youth who struggle with mental health?
-No! The camps are designed for any kid or youth!

You mention social emotional learning, what would this look like in a camp? Will it still be fun or will it be more like school?
-Opportunities to engage with Social Emotional Learning is something that is beneficial for all kids, youth and adults! This might look like providing opportunities for kids/youth to learn more about themselves, build friendships and community and challenge themselves. We have designed the camps to be FUN! There will be structured activities that we will be doing together, there will be time to just play and time to explore.

What makes these camps different?
- While the camps are designed for ANY kid or youth to attend, we know that for some kids and youth the "normal" camp day or schedule is too much, too busy, too loud, too overwhelming. While we will still be having fun, moving our bodies and being creative, our camps will take into consideration that not everyone enjoys the same pace. Our camps are either for one day or two days, providing flexibility for those kids and youth who feel overwhelmed by a full week of camps.

To register please email [email protected] or call/text 902-500-4920. ☀️

Today is May 6th, the day after May 5th. Why is that important? In our busy lives, remembrance of important days in the calendar can be challenging, however that can be a privilege, one which we at Peace Lily Path acknowledge. We at Peace Lily Path recognize that we missed posting our solidarity in honour of May 5th, which is known as Red Dress Day. It is a solemn and powerful occasion to honour the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S+), and to stand in solidarity with their families, communities, and loved ones.

So why post on May 6th then? Well we want to acknowledge our privilege in that this day slipped by. So many families in our communities across our country and the world do not have this privilege. We are committed to acknowledging our journey of learning to walk alongside our Mi'kmaq and Indigenous leaders and communities, even when it is uncomfortable. This to us also means unlearning our biases, acknowledging our privilege as white settler women, listening more than speaking and aligning our actions with the care and leadership of our Indigenous peoples.

It is May 6th, and action still matters.
Below are 8 Calls For Justice from The Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, that connects to actions that we can all reflect on and engage with individually and collectively.

We call on all Canadians to:
15.1 Denounce and speak out against violence against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA people.
15.2 Decolonize by learning the true history of Canada and Indigenous history in your local area. Learn about and celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ history, cultures, pride, and diversity, acknowledging the land you live on and its importance to local Indigenous communities, both historically and today.
15.3 Develop knowledge and read the Final Report. Listen to the truths shared, and acknowledge the burden of these human and Indigenous rights violations, and how they impact Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA people today.
15.4 Become a strong ally. Being a strong ally involves more than just tolerance; it means actively working to break down barriers and to support others in every relationship and encounter in which you participate.
15.5 Confront and speak out against racism, sexism, ignorance, homophobia, and transphobia, and teach or encourage others to do the same, wherever it occurs: in your home, in your workplace, or in social settings.
15.6 Protect, support, and promote the safety of women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA people by acknowledging and respecting the value of every person and every community, as well as the right of Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA people to generate their own, self-determined solutions.
15.7 Create time and space for relationships based on respect as human beings, supporting and embracing differences with kindness, love, and respect. Learn about Indigenous
principles of relationship specific to those Nations or communities in your local area and work, and put them into practice in all of your relationships with Indigenous Peoples.
15.8 Help hold all governments accountable to act on the Calls for Justice, and to implement them according to the important principles we set out.

Please join us in reflecting and engaging with the above Calls for Justice (and others in the final report). Below are just a few of the wide range of resources available.

Safe Passage: Created by the Native Women's Association of Canada this resource "documents the legacy of systemic violence that creates and maintains the MMIWG2S+ genocide, while also holding space for MMIWG2S+ families and survivors to have their stories be heard, believed, valued, and shared on their own terms".
