Should I get a flu shot this year?

Yes. You should get a flu shot every year, especially this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The flu shot will not protect you from COVID-19, but it will protect you from influenza, which has very similar symptoms to COVID-19. Getting more people the flu vaccine could also help prevent unnecessary testing for COVID-19, as many of the symptoms of COVID-19 and influenza, both respiratory illnesses, are similar.

It is also important to avoid the potential risk of geting influenza and COVID-19 infections at the same time, which could increase the possibility of serious illness.

A total of 36.5% more influenza vaccine has been purchased this year than last year to meet anticipated increase in demand. Visit www.4flu.ca to find public health clinics close to you or book an appointment with your local pharmacy.

Take two minutes to become an organ donor and potentially add years to the lives of many people who are waiting for organ and tissue donations. Change the ending to someone's story.

ICYMI: This morning Government of Saskatchewan officially launched the online Organ and Tissue Donor Registry. Now Available to all Saskatchewan Residents 16 Years or older
http://www.givelifesask.ca/.

“With this organ and tissue donor registry, we have another way to support grieving families by confirming the intentions of their loved ones,” Saskatchewan Health Authority Medical Director for Donation Dr. Joann Kawchuk said. “Every person who registers increases the chance of a longer, better life for people waiting for a transplant.”

When it comes to an emergency, seconds count. When you hear emergency sirens/lights 🚑 🚒 🚔 ...do you know what to do to keep everyone safe?

Emergency vehicles have the right-of-way and take precedence over all other traffic.
* If an emergency vehicle approaches you with lights flashing or sirens engaged safely pull over to the right side of the road as quickly as possible. On 1-way streets, pull over to the nearest curb (clear the centre lanes). Watch for other emergency vehicles also responding.
* Don't enter an intersection (in your vehicle or as a pedestrian) until the emergency vehicle is completely through it, even if you have a green/walk light.
* If an emergency vehicle is stopped with its lights flashing, slow to 60 km/h unless you're driving on the opposite side of a divided highway. The same rule applies for tow trucks and other service vehicles at the side of the highway with amber or amber and blue lights flashing.

We all need to do our part when it comes to safety. Thank you.

Please take precautions for the heat wave.

Very proud to work along side the wonderful nurses in Assiniboia. Great idea Teah!

In the midst of the challenges and uncertainty presented by COVID-19, a Registered Nurse (RN) in Assiniboia found a way to rally her coworkers and keep their spirits high.

“I decided to create the motivational board to promote both positivity and collaboration,” explained Teah Harkness, an RN at the Assiniboia Union Hospital Integrated Facility. Harkness transformed a bulletin board in the facility into a motivational hub, blanketing the board with cards littered with words of encouragement and inspiration.

Creating a space for unity and calm within the chaos and change that staff have faced as the result of the pandemic was the end-goal of the motivation board. “I thought it would be beneficial to let not only nursing staff, but also housekeeping, dietary, management, lab and integrated services know that together we stand as a team,” Harkness said.
