Next Step Foot Care in Atikokan | Stop Living with Painful, Achy Feet

Hello everyone, I know I’ve been pretty quiet with COVID updates on my business page, as of next week, I will slowly be getting back in to foot care (unless things change, let’s hope not!). That being said, I will be calling all clients on my waiting list, as they will be seen by priority appointments first. I will be doing home visits for now as my office is still closed to public, pending each client passes the screening process. So hang tight, it will be a bit yet but I’m on it!

In the mean time, please check out my new website!! It’s had a totally facelift and looks fantastic!! I’ve had it professionally done by Paige Jeffery and she is absolutely amazing at what she does!!

So here we are, trying to play things day by day. And I hope you are all doing your parts to flatten the curve of COVID-19. Shout outs going to EVERYONE doing their parts during this difficult, unknown time. With my part, as a nurse, I am a frontline worker, so please, stay home and stay safe. I am dedicating myself and services at this time to the hospital where I will serve a greater purpose, so temporarily, foot care services will be on hold. Let’s hope this isn’t for long, let’s get this virus under control so I can get back to serving my clients! To all my clients, take care out there, and I will see you when this is over!

In regards to the COVID-19 outbreak, I would like all my clients and family members to know I am monitoring this situation carefully and am following the advice of the local, provincial, and federal health authorities as well as guidance from the College of Nurses of Ontario. At this point in time, my office at the Atikokan General Hospital, is closed and will remain closed until further notice. All clinic appointments will be rescheduled to home visits, or rescheduled all together. Prior to appointments, I will be calling and doing screening over the phone. Please reschedule if you are feeling unwell in any sort of way, or if you have been in contact with anyone traveling outside of the country within the last 2 weeks, we don’t want to spread ANYTHING! Aside from this post, I will also be phoning all scheduled appointments with the change and update. Thank you all for support, we will make it through this!

Reasons that in the medical field we don’t promote foot soaks 🦶

I’m often asked why I don’t soak feet as part of my foot care. Current best practice is to NOT soak and here are the reasons behind it. Foot health is super important! Know the facts 😊 Call for an appointment #stepwisefootcare #healthyfeet #bestpractice

Living in Canada, one would think that the incidence of amputations due to diabetes would be steadily decreasing. Though Canada has managed to reduce the number of cardiovascular events in the diabetic population, amputation rates continue to rise and compare poorly with many other developed countries. In fact, the mortality rate of people with amputations is 50% after 5 years - meaning 1 in 2 people die after an amputation!

Amputation remains one of the most dreaded complications in the lives of people with diabetes. One of the leading causes of amputation is diabetes-related foot ulcers. They also are among the highest costs in our health-care system.
