The FACE Magazine

The FACE Magazine THE FACE is a new industry magazine dedicated to North American Truck Drivers, their families & all others who make up this dynamic, essential industry.

THE FACE bridges a wide gap with a magazine and website dedicated to "real people and true stories" in trucking. Think People® magazine for truckers...and you'll have a good idea of what our vision is all about. THE FACE is the first magazine and website of its kind within this industry to share stories directly from the source. As opposed to repackaging content and issues already covered by existing magazines and the Internet, we bring our readers fresh material created by peers for each other. THE FACE is sharing at its very best, with professionals helping make these stories entertaining, enlightening and accessible to the rest of the world in ways now made possible with technology. This is a conversation that begins now, and continues well into the future.

Mission: We want to shine a spotlight on THE FACE of the people behind the wheels of the trucks that deliver goods to businesses and consumers throughout the world -- people who drive our highways in all weather and for long hours to ensure that the products we rely on arrive on time and in good condition. Our MISSION is to raise awareness of how important these people are to our economy, from local to global, and why they deserve the respect and admiration of all members of our society.

Some great new photos from The Trucking Photographer

While I didn't get as many as I had hoped to get to day, I did find these nice looking trucks as they rolled through the truck stop today.

I hope that you enjoy these photos because they are real people, real stories of people who make the sacrifice for the people of our country.

Andy Genno, company driver for Low Risk Logistics, was the first to submit a photo of his furry companion for the Head-Lites photo contest. Meet Porsha, an Alaskan Husky Shepherd mix, who Andy found in an ad one day as he was sitting in a Calgary truck stop. That day, Andy reached out to the owners…

Truck Drivers Face Parking Shortage

Some are hopeful change will come. The truck-parking shortage ranked sixth in American Transportation Research Institute’s list of top 10 issues critical to the industry in October. The advisory committee to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration put it in a wish list for congressional spending on surface transportation

Truck drivers face a severe shortage of legal, safe and well-lit parking places even as safety regulators have mandated that they must stop, park and rest more often.

Noella and Art are part of Operation Roger, an initiative that pairs truckers with adopted pets who need a lift to new homes in the U.S. and Canada. For pet owners, our pets are more like family, so how great is it that these truck drivers help find 'fur-ever' homes for these four-legged friends? http://ow.ly/Gys9r

Trucking industry should pay for wider roads

This letter to the editor to the Des Moines Register in an Iowa states that the trucking industry (and the big box stores they haul to) should pay the $1 billion tab for wider roads. He states "If trucking companies have created the need for more freeway lanes, then make them pay for the full cost of freeway widening projects." Is this an example of how little consumers know about the supply chain? What are some solutions to the knowledge gap? http://ow.ly/GlxEA

Does it make sense to have all the taxpayers fund a huge subsidy to Iowa DOT to widen freeways?

Stressed out on the road? Stressed about the holidays? Putting anger in perspective is the key.

There are stressful jobs – and then there is truck driving. Drivers not only have to be mentally alert for their whole shift, but they often have to interact with people who do not understand their job. This can leave them frustrated and angry. But how do you stop your anger from taking control? A t…

Updating National Occupational Standards | Trucking Human Resources Canada

The National Occupational Standard Draft from Trucking HR Canada has been released and they require your feedback. The 84-page Draft seeks to define the role of a truck driver by having minimum standards for the job. It outlines three elements of competency: Supportive (workplace, interpersonal and non-driving competency), Functional (non-driving functions and equipment operations), and Driving (driving specific competencies). How do you think you measure up? Are these standards a step in the right direction for driver retention? The Deadline for submitting your comments is Jan 16, 2015 at 5 p.m.

Over the past year, Trucking HR Canada has consulted with drivers, trainers and fleet managers across the country to clearly define the work of commercial vehicle operators (truck drivers). We need your help to ensure we got it right.

Here's a graphic from OOIDA to show the changes in HOS rules that happened this week. What are your thoughts? Are they good or bad changes?

There’s some confusion about what changed on HOS.

So, to set the record straight, here’s what did NOT change:
> Yes, you still have to take the 30-minute rest break.
> Yes, you still have a 14-hour duty day and you CANNOT stop the clock.

What did change ONLY involves the voluntary 34-hour restart. Here’s what DID change:
> You no longer have to have two overnight periods of 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. during the restart.
> You can take a restart anytime you want. You are not restricted to one every seven days, anymore.

Check out the enforcement notice here:

Print a copy and keep it with you.

Be safe!

Hours of Service of Drivers

There has been a temporary suspension of two HOS rules, effective Dec 16th. The changes were announced yesterday by the FMCSA. This means:
1. The two 1am-5am periods are no longer needed during a 34-hour break
2. You can restart at any time, rather than once per 168 hours.
You can read the announcement in the link below. We want to hear your thoughts! Will this be a help or hindrance? Is this compromising or aiding safety for drivers? Comment or email us at [email protected]

FMCSA suspends enforcement of certain sections of the Agency’s Hours of Service (HOS) rules as required by the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2015, enacted December 16, 2014. Specifically, FMCSA suspends the requirements regarding the restart of a driver’s 60- or 70-hour lim…

DOT Plays Santa, Eliminating Daily Paperwork Requirement for Trucking Industry -- Occupational...

"America's truckers should be able to focus more on getting their goods safely to store shelves, constructions sites, or wherever they need to be instead of spending countless hours on unnecessary paperwork that costs the industry nearly $2 billion each year," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Fox. What are your thoughts? Is this a gift or not?

Beginning Dec. 18, professional truck drivers no longer have to submit reports of their pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections if they have not found equipment problems or safety concerns.
