As therapists, we sometimes need to pause, unwind, and simply breathe. Remember, we can’t keep giving from an empty cup. Take time to rest, recharge, and care for yourself too.

POV: You have 15 minutes between clients… 😂
Other people: sit down, scroll TikTok, enjoy their break.

Massage therapists: immediately go to the washroom to stretch like we just finished a 90-minute deep tissue session on OURSELVES. 😭😂

15 minutes? More like 12 minutes trying to put our bodies back together and 3 minutes pretending we’re fine.

Massage therapists all around the globe… please tell me I’m not alone. 😂😂

Massage Therapist Tip: Take Care of Your Hands!

Your thumbs and wrists work hard—protect them with:

• Gentle thumb & wrist stretches before and after sessions
• Use your whole hand and body weight instead of overworking your thumbs
• Take short breaks between clients
• Strengthen your hands, wrists, and forearms regularly
• Listen to your body and rest when you feel pain or fatigue

Healthy hands = a longer, stronger massage career!

When your client knows more about the human body than you do…

As an RMT, MOT, and certified in Biomedical Dry Needling, I sometimes use dry needling for my own hand and wrist pain.

Needling the dorsal interosseous, abductor digiti minimi, and abductor pollicis brevis muscles may help reduce muscle tension, improve blood flow, decrease pain, and improve hand movement. These muscles were targeted because they can become tight or overworked and may contribute to hand and wrist discomfort.

Dry needling is one of the tools I use to help support recovery and movement.
