Happy New Year!!

Well 2020 was a rollercoaster of a year for everyone.
Personally 2020 kept me from getting to meet and hold my youngest niece in BC in person which has been very hard for me. And like everyone else it kept me from physically spending time with all the people I love so much and depend on the contact with them for feeling of love and support.

However, 2020 also brought the growth of the clinic to a larger location, it brought me Samantha who I can not express how grateful I am for having her working with me. I waited for a year and half almost two years to find her. I had faith that when the time was right the universe would present to me the right person. And wow did the universe deliver. You know you are on the right path when. It also gave me the ability to concentrate more on the patient population I am so passionate about helping.

2020 gave me months at home to rediscover my love for designing and sewing after I had been missing it and craving it for so long. It gave me the ability to have time to be home and sew scrub caps for my local hospital when they needed them desperately. It felt so good to be able to use my time to help the people in my community. Volunteer work is so important in my family and it meant so much to me to actually have time to give back the way I was able to.

2020 gave me time at home with my special little guys Noki and Bam Bam. As Noki gets older and his heart grows weaker I love and treasure every day I get to spend at home with him. Every morning we wake up and are able to cuddle in bed together for a bit instead of having to get up and ready for work right away I treasure so much. I appreciate every day we got to go for three walks a day because I actually had the time.

I appreciated everyday I was home and able to have a nice dinner ready for Sean when he got home from working 10-13 hours a day, they got no time off as essential workers. When we both are working full time like most couples we struggle to cook healthy meals for ourselves when we both are working 10 hour days on average. We used to take turns cooking or picking up dinner from a restaurant but always dreaded having to even think about what to eat let alone cooking it or making extra stops after work to pick it up.
Being home during lockdown and reducing my hours since going back has given me the ability to cook all our meals at home and not dread thinking about it and enjoying spending the time cooking it. Through the help of the wonderful Dr. Yasmin Snippe, ND we got Sean’s heart burn under control and are both improving our health through nutrition.

2020 also gave me some time to myself to keep learning and working on myself and the anxiety disorder which for 15 years now has affected how I live everyday. It gave me time to do more studying of Buddhist teachings which continue to help change my perspective of life and the world. Buddhism has taught me that happiness does not come from the people, places or things in your life it comes from within you. It comes from an awareness and acceptance of yourself and all things good and bad. It has taught me how to find happiness within myself no matter what is happening around me.

For all the good and bad that this year has brought I appreciate it all and will look back fondly of 2020 as the year that changed everything.

I hope you too can look back and appreciate the good and the bad that this year has brought us all.

Cheers to 2021!

Rowan’s Law Day

Today is Rowan’s Law Day.

Last year I was lucky enough to get to hear Rowan’s father tell her story in person at Georgian College.

Athletes are tough people that can handle tough stuff but when it comes to brain injury you can’t tough it out and continue on like normal.

Unfortunately, Rowan and everyone who loved her learned the hard way that you need to take hits the head seriously even if you do not have serious signs and symptoms that are easily recognized.

Rowan’s story could have been different if more people were more educated about concussion.

This story and the many stories of the patients I treat who were lucky enough to survive their concussions but are left living with the effects of them are the reasons why I am very passionate about concussion education and management.

*Warning this post is personal, not about massage therapy*

From Sept 25th - Oct 4th I will be participating in Hike for Hospice to raise money in support of Hospice Simcoe. I will be participating in different activities each day since we are unable to gather as a community to hike together this year.

Hospice Simcoe is a place near and dear to my heart. When we reached the end of my dad's fight with cancer Hospice Simcoe provided us with more support, love and guidance than I could have hoped for.

They provide our community with many support programs whether your loved one passed at hospice or not.

If you, or anyone you know is struggling with the loss of a loved one please contact Hospice Simcoe or visit their website to see how they can offer assistance. If you are able to please donate to Hospice Simcoe using the link below.

Registered Massage Therapy | Mindful Thyme Wellness Centre | Ontario

With fall fast approaching it seems like a good time for an update on what is happening at the clinic.

Samantha is settled into the clinic and helping as many clients as she can. Her schedule is getting busier week by week, however, she does still have some availability to take new clients. If you would like to book a treatment with her please contact the clinic at 705-252-1803 or you can book online at www.mindfulthymewellness.com

Samantha and I are getting used to all the new cleaning procedures and administrative requirements and getting into a good groove.

Gertie the skeleton is getting used to wearing her mask and very happy to be welcoming clients into the clinic again. She told me she was getting lonely while we were all away.

Lisa has been able to get her first group of essential clients back in for treatment and back on track. I will be starting to call the second group of clients next week to start booking appointments for the fall. I will be adding one evening shift to my current schedule to start getting those of you that have been patiently waiting in for treatment.
If you are still waiting to see me and are in need of treatment soon, I highly encourage you book with Samantha until you are able to see me, or contact me for advice on homecare to help you until you can come in for treatment.

Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the summer!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON BACK TO PRACTICE.

As most of you may know the Ministry of Health declared this week that all regulated healthcare practitioners may begin to resume practice.

This does not mean that we are allowed to return to practice as usual, before COVID-19.

The College of Massage Therapists of Ontario has stated:
"RMTs are now permitted to gradually restart Massage Therapy services. The Directive encourages healthcare providers to limit the number of in-person visits for the safety of healthcare providers and their patients.

Directive #2 allows for a gradual restart of services to be carried out with adherence to guidance from the health professional’s regulatory college."

So what does this all mean?

1. There is a lot of planning, organizing and changes to procedures and to the clinic before the clinic may open. My estimate at the moment is 4-5 weeks before I will be ready to re-open.

2. As directed by the CMTO RMT's are to prioritize patients with essential needs first.

3. RMT's must weigh the risk of the patient or RMT contracting COVID-19 versus the benefits of the treatment. If the benefits do not outweigh the risk, treatment will be refused for now. Anyone who is not deemed to have essential needs, please keep watching for updates I will let you know as soon as it is safe to start taking non-essential patients again.

4. The future schedule will be deleted and Lisa will contact clients which have essential needs to book you in for when I return. My days and hours will be different than previous. I am not sure what my schedule will look like just yet. Please wait for another update in the next couple of weeks.

5. If you have an acute injury please contact me so I can determine if your needs are essential or can be helped through Telehealth virtual appointment instead.

6. Samantha Lahonen, RMT will be starting at the clinic when I re-open. She will be able to take on essential patients which I do not have the availability to see right away. Please keep this in mind so you do not feel stressed that you will be left without treatment for your essential needs. She is a great RMT and is ok with taking direction from me so you will be taken care of well by her.

7. Your appointment will be different than it was previously. Once I have finished developing all procedures for the clinic I will send another update with step by step instructions on what you will be required to do before, during and after your appointment.

I hope you are all doing well through this crazy time.

I would like to sincerely thank all of you for your loyalty and support through the years. In times like this I realize just how lucky I am to have my Mindful Thyme family to come back to.

I look forward to seeing you all in the near future.
