Fernanda Cunha interviews the recreation therapist Erica Botner, founder of Recreotherapy

03/12/2021

IT'S TIME FOR ANOTHER ! Fernanda from Recreation Therapy's Corner is a prime example of a woman who has taken her passions and built upon them. She is new to the Recreation Therapy field, but she is on fire for the profession and is making a difference already! Fernanda Cunha was brought up in a rich musical environment in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), and began her singing career over 20 years ago. She has 8 albums that feature amazing solo work and collaborations. Femanda has toured Brazil, Europe and North America, performing at prestigious international jazz festivals. Her regular appearances at jazz festivals in Canada since 2005 have helped to carve out a new fan base there and a new home. After sharing her music at three long-term care facilities while performing at a festival in British Columbia, she decided to take her career in a new direction. When she saw the seniors interactions and responses to the music she was inspired to pursue a post-graduate program in Recreation Therapy. This would allow her to put her previous degree in psychology and her experience as a musician together. She moved to Ontario in 2019, and now is studying her last term of Recreation Therapy at Lambton College.

Fernanda is passionate about the profession and wants to help to promote the value of RT. Her desire is to bring as much information as possible to students, professionals in the field and in related areas, as well as reinforce the importance of RT in Long term care and mental health facilities, hospitals, hospices, etc. Fernanda has created the "Recreation Therapy's Comer" channels on YouTube. Instagram, and Facebook. As she explains in her intro video she is coming from one direction and others from another direction and they can meet in the comer to find commonalities and growth. Since September, she has already interviewed Krista Banks and Chelsea Crockford (Recreation Therapists), Mary Rockwood Lane (artist and nurse from USA- creator of the course "Healing with the arts"), Rozalynn Werner-Arcé, (Executive Director of Therapeutic Recreation Ontario). Her first interview in January 2021 is with Tanea Gonçalves (Executive director of CTRA). Tune in to gain new perspectives and build connections. Check her account out on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube!

Stay tuned for another collaboration between them and Recreotherapy 😋
