BRHC Foundation Receives Donation from RBC Royal Bank’s Award Winner Jackie Wells
The BRHC Foundation is honored to share that RBC employee Jackie Wells, winner of RBC’s Community Leadership Award, directed her donation to the Brandon Regional Health Foundation for the Palliative Care Unit at the BRHC, in memory of her mother Margery Ruth Nicol and dear friend Donna Hamm.
Jackie is the Brandon RBC Royal Bank Executive Assistant and former Manager of Client Care at the 18th and Van Horne Avenue branch. She shared, “Over the past two years I have had to say good-bye to my mother and dear friend in the Palliative Care Unit at the BRHC. Having a place that is private, comfortable, and peaceful to maneuver through this process is invaluable to families and their loved ones at such a difficult time. I would encourage anyone who has the opportunity to give back to the Palliative Care Unit, to do so!”
In Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Northwest Ontario, RBC Royal Bank awards the prestigious Regional President’s Community Leadership Award to compassionate, energetic, and enthusiastic employees who demonstrate outstanding volunteerism within their communities. These special individuals are nominated by their peers and leaders, and recipients are selected by a committee led by RBC’s Regional President. Each award recipient receives a unique glass award and is honored with $1,000 from RBC Foundation that is directed to the recipient’s charity of choice.

"I am so pleased to hear that you will be carrying on Donna's legacy. Her "Caring Companions" (C.C.) business evolved from her deep desire to help people and it is so great to hear it will continue.
My Dad, Alvin Smiley, has been a recipient of C.C. care for many years. Donna and her caring employees (Jolene & Donalda) over the years have escorted Dad to medical appointments, taken him on drives and many outings. My Dad now lives at Victoria Landing and the staff there once thought Donna and her staff were our relatives. That is how much care and concern she and her staff have for their clients.
As Donna's business grew she solicited the help of her husband, Kelly. Kelly has accompanied my Dad to appointments and on many drives. He has the same care and concern for their clients and my Dad always looks forward to his outings with Kelly.
Donna had a vision that this would be a way she could help families care for their loved ones and I am so pleased to know that Kelly will now be running the business she worked so hard to start!"
