Gardening for Birds

Here are some suggestions for plants that sustain birds in your garden. It is specifically for our area. I have burr oak, culver's root, butterfly milkweed, tulip tree from this list. What plants do you have and which do you plant on adding?https://birdgardens.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/zone16-April28.pdf More information at https://birdgardens.ca/

Did you know that when you register for Green Up you are eligible to receive a free packet of native plant seeds? Yep, that's right!

So, what is a Green Up activity you ask?
👉 Planting a native tree, shrub or pollinator plant
👉 Removing invasive plants from your property
👉 Giving care to your trees
👉 Learning about trees, native species, pollinators, etc.

Pssst... your Green Up activity can be planting the seed packets you get.

Many native plant seeds can be sowed in the fall too, so September and October can be a great time to get them in the ground and ready to go for next spring!

Register for Green Up today and get your free seed packet, while quantities last!

Perfect Start of the Day #growforchange ☘️☘️
We have reached tomato seedling donation max. (50+) and are lining up to plant them in the next few days - thank you sooo much!
Straw Bale #3 has been inoculated With Yellow Oyster Mushrooms.
Straw Bale #2 has been inoculated With Blue Oyster Mushrooms, I had to come out just before dark because it was too hot today.
I would like to thank the Starbucks shops around Burlington for their donations of about 75 pounds (34 KG) spent coffee grounds for the Grow For Change Urban Farm, these will be use as mushroom food & as a 100% natural method of combating insects & slugs in the Straw Bales. containers are only used for coffee grounds & all the bags are 100% compostable.
the city of Burlington dropping off some fresh wood chips for the Grow For Change Urban Farm
this is my first outdoor Wine Cap (Stropharia rugosoannulata) garden bed made with the assistance of the Grow for Change Urban Farm at Brant St. & Ghent Ave. in Burlington, Ontario. photo of the mushrooms is what they will look like once they are fully colonized & are fruiting. I put down 2 skids, covered it with cardboard, a layer of landscapers fabric, than put down a two inch layer of Maple wood chips & some straw pellets than covered it in a layer of Wine Cap Sawdust Spawn and than repeated 3 more times and covered it in a final very thin layer of compost for the end result. this is called "The Lasagna Method" FYI: Wine Caps should only be eaten for a maximum of three days in a row, then you should take a one or two break from consuming them, they are known to cause mild & undesirable gastrointestinal problems if consumed every day. as with all new foods it is recommended to eat a small amount first to see how or if it has any negative effects on you.
Please share or if you have any spare buckets / pails with a handle that you are no longer using we would love to give it a new life. Thank You https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/314303893607491
Happy New Year! With all that is going on, I am launching a modest eco-project -> open to all, but especially focused on apartments and condo-style residences. This way we can have a positive activity to channel some of our time into shaping a better world.
