You open Instagram, and there it is again: another local account posting an over-lit, giant stuffed cookie. A few scrolls later, another "SOLD OUT" announcement for a weekend drop.
If you bake at home and everyone loves your recipes, it’s tough not to feel that quick hit of panic: Have I already missed the boat? Is the market full? Here is the truth from a food industry perspective:
A crowded social feed shouts about competition, but it can’t reveal who is actually profitable. When we worry about "saturation," we usually confuse three completely different layers:
Category Demand: Do people buy cookies? (Yes, it’s a $39B+ market).
Local Competition: Are nearby sellers targeting similar orders? (Probably).
Business Viability: Can you produce and deliver a differentiated product at a repeatable profit? (This is the ONLY layer that matters).
If your marketing proposition is just "I make delicious custom cookies," you are operating in the Red Zone.
Customers will compare you solely on price and convenience. True market "white space" isn't inventing a flavor nobody has tried. It’s the intersection of a Specific Buyer, a Specific Occasion, a Specific Promise, and a Production System That Makes Money.
