🌳🌱 We water the roots of our gardens… but what about the roots that carry us through life? 👣

During these hot summer days, we’re out watering our flowers, gardens, and trees because we know healthy roots are the foundation of a healthy plant.

Without water and proper care, roots dry out. Plants become weak. Growth slows.

Then yesterday, one of my patients said something that really made me think:

“Our feet are our roots… they need to be cared for.”

What a beautiful way to look at it.

Our feet are the foundation of everything we do. They support us through work, family, travel, hobbies, and everyday life. Yet they’re often the most neglected part of our body.

Just like the roots of a tree, our feet need regular care to stay healthy and strong.

💧 Stay hydrated.
🧴 Moisturize your feet (just not between the toes!).
👟 Wear supportive footwear.
🩺 Don’t ignore pain, thick nails, calluses, or changes in your feet.
👣 Schedule regular foot care—especially if you have diabetes, poor circulation, or difficulty caring for your own feet.

Healthy roots help everything above them flourish.

The same is true for your feet.

Take care of your roots… they’ll carry you for a lifetime. 💜

🦶 It’s Been Hot… and Athlete’s Foot Is Making the Rounds!

The recent heat and humidity create the perfect environment for Tinea Pedis (Athlete’s Foot). We’ve recently seen more patients with symptoms consistent with this common fungal infection.

Athlete’s foot thrives in warm, moist environments and is commonly spread in:

🏊 Public pools
🚿 Locker rooms & showers
🩴 Change rooms
👟 Sweaty shoes and socks

Watch for these signs:

✔️ Itching or burning between the toes
✔️ Redness or peeling skin
✔️ Dry, flaky or cracked skin
✔️ Small blisters
✔️ An unpleasant odour that doesn’t improve with washing

Help prevent it by:

🧦 Changing your socks daily (or more often if they become damp)
👟 Letting your shoes dry completely between wears
🩴 Wearing flip-flops or water shoes in public wet areas
🦶 Drying carefully between your toes after bathing
💨 Choosing breathable footwear whenever possible

Without treatment, athlete’s foot can spread to the toenails, other areas of the feet, or to other people.

If you’re unsure whether it’s athlete’s foot, eczema, or another skin condition, we’re happy to assess your feet and discuss appropriate treatment options.
