Some of you will recognize this sweet face from my posts, emails, or the ritual cards tucked into your orders.

Behind those photos was my little companion through so much of life, including building Chinook.

Steeler was beside me through the workdays, and our walks together were my favourite part of the day.

Time in nature, just the two of us, with so many lovely connections along the way because of him.

He was part of Chinook because he was part of me, and I’m so grateful I got to share a little of him with you.

We recently had to say goodbye, and I miss him more than I can put into words.

His sweet face will always be part of our story.

Sometimes the boldest thing you can do is walk away from something you've worked so hard to build.

Before Chinook Skincare, my husband and I spent 10 years building a successful restaurant business. From the outside, things looked wonderful, but behind the scenes, we were working nearly every day, missing holidays and constantly putting the business ahead of our own lives.

We had the financial freedom to do so many things, but very little time to actually enjoy any of them.

Eventually, we had to ask ourselves, is this really what we want for the rest of our lives?

Selling the business wasn't an easy decision. And with spinal surgery and a long recovery shortly afterward, we suddenly found ourselves in midlife, both facing the challenge of starting over.

But that experience completely changed how I define success.

I still want to build a successful business. The difference is that this time, I'm building it around the lifestyle we want to live, rather than allowing the business to dictate how we live our lives.

Because I've learned that financial success means very little if you don't have the time and freedom to enjoy it.

One of the biggest lessons I've learned as a small business owner is that not every opportunity is the right opportunity.

This past year, I've intentionally stepped away from a lot of the things I thought I should be doing to grow Chinook Skincare.

Attending networking events, doing retail demos, handing out free samples and all the other things the beauty industry tells us we should be doing to succeed.

Instead, I've chosen to invest that time in myself, learning new skills that align with my natural talents, understanding my business better and focusing on what truly feels aligned with where I want to take it.

And while it's meant saying no to a lot of things, it's also given me the space to grow in ways I might not have otherwise.
