This week, try one class.

Just one. 🧘‍♀️

Free live online yoga in the Sister Science Community every week.

Monday to Thursday at 7amMT. 30 minutes of movement, then a 10-minute meditation or savasana. Wake up, infuse with Prana, ignite Agni, and shore up Ojas.

Monday 7pm and Wednesday 7:30pm a wind-down, decompress class to help you release tension, recalibrate your nervous system and sleep well.

Thursdays at 11:30am, Erin leads Sangha: a guided meditation, then a conversation about what you felt.

Cameras off. Pajamas welcome. No experience needed. Can’t make it live? The recording are there.

You don’t have to commit to anything. Pick a class. Show up. See how your body feels.

Jill Novak
Founder, Sister Science · Ayurvedic Practitioner · Yoga Therapist. Yoga Teacher Trainer

Sister Science, is an Ayurveda & Yoga wellness education brand based in Cochrane, Alberta. We teach women to insource their decision making, instead of outsourcing their wisdom to the next expert, product, or procedure. The path is simple, not easy: listen to your body, trust what it tells you, and follow it, even when it's inconvenient.

Her flagship program, Year of YOU, began as a personal declaration in 2008. It has since grown into a year-long program for women, with over 75 graduates.

As and Ayurveda Practitioner at Synergy Collaborative Health, Jill helps clients zero in on key lifestyle changes that make the biggest impact on day to day wellness. When we take care of the things that prevent healing, we let the body do what it is built to do.

In 1995 Jill found her first yoga class in a school gym. Capitavted she has followed her intuition to the place she is today. A Yoga Teacher, Yoga Therapist, Ayurveda Practitioner and Yoga Teacher Trainer. She works one-on-one and offers group courses, helping women get out of the Exhaustion Loop where they intentionally design a life of ease, balance, and fulfillment. Sister Science believes the body is our guidance system, and we have just never been taught how to listen to it. It is our mission to bring you practical applicable ways to reclaim that skill.

This week has been a lot. I have been in deep conversation with my husband, my daughters and son, and my girlfriends about this issue. There has been SO MUCH and I am not interested in contributing to the rage, but like this clip, do not mistake that for being calm. I am not. A few comments arose this week that I am in deep contemplation of:

Your rage won't get you allies in this, you need to approach this without your anger. You are making people uncomfortable, and people will just shut down.

You have benefited from the patriarchy more than most.

Honestly, my family is the place where the most combative conversations are happening, mostly because we raised kids and created space where big issues are welcome, where we know we need to stir the s**t up to make change. My husband and son, my daughters, their partners, we are raging and we are listening. We are all uncomfortable with the obvious truths being revealed. None of need to defend, explain, or justify any of it. We are not attacking each other. And... we don't know what need to happens next, or how our small personal actions can make any difference in a system that has been dividing and conquering all of us for a very long time.

Is women's rage acceptable? How do we express it in a world that demonizes, devalues, and dismisses it as "hysterical"?
Is being "uncomfortable" a bad thing? We have been taught to make peace, to fawn and smooth things over. But should we question why?
If people don't want to engage with me on this, should that silence me?
What is the path forward here? for me? For my men? For my women? If what got us here is not the path that will get us out of here.... what is the path?

Real discourse is our way out.

This week at the Cochrane Engine Room, we had a workshop on Operations, Systems and Culture. I had a few ah-ha moments.

This sentence “Don’t call it a problem. Call it a pattern”

Ding Ding Ding - My body reacted. Being affirmed that the Kaizen Approach - slow and steady improvement is a sustainable way forward. Kaizen doesn’t ask who failed. It asks what the process is producing, and where the smallest shift could change the whole output over time.

A problem wants a fix. Something isolated. You patch it, you move on, and somehow, it always comes back.
A pattern asks a different question - what keeps generating this result? what default operating system is running here?

Small, continuous improvement instead of big dramatic fixes, that is our MO - Mode of Operation.

The goal is not to get you rested enough to go back and do it again. The goal is to do it differently. We’re looking at what keeps showing up and changing the game.

If you are running on empty or not enjoying the cycle you are in, ask yourself what pattern is producing it. Then making one small, sustainable shift.

So next time something keeps happening - pause before you call it a problem. Ask what pattern it actually is. That question changes what you go looking for.

We’ve been trained our whole lives to go it alone. Compete with each other. WIN. Don’t share your answers, don’t help your classmate. NOPE.

Stepping into the working world taught us that the business next door was who we were against, We have to hustle, grind, and solo climb to get there before someone else.

We forgot? Or we have been trained? to let go of our intuition to be in community.

When we collaborate, learn from each other. Think Heterarchy not Hierarchy, then we become stronger, more resources, less exhausted.

A community lets us lean on the people who have the skill sets we don’t. It isn’t just acceptable but advised to let others carry a piece of the load. That this is smart - productive even - instead of white-knuckling it all ourselves. We want community to be the plan, not the backup.

Collaboration isn’t a weakness. It’s not “cheating” at self-sufficiency. It’s how humans were designed to function long before we were sold the myth of doing it all solo.

Here’s the Sister Science invitation: stop carrying what was never meant to be carried alone. Find your people. Share the load. Lean into the skills of the people next to you instead of trying to be everything yourself.

A rising tide floats all boats. Let’s be the rising tide.

The system isn’t broken. It was built this way.

You’ve seen the phrase. This Systems Theory we are watching play out around us. The bizzillionaies creating products and services that quite honestly suck. Who has spent time fighting with their cell phone company? trying to get a refund from junk fees on your credit card? Systems designed to maximize profit regardless of ethics or effects on customers.

Consider that very system is perfectly designed to get the results it’s already getting.

Activists point this out all the time - housing, education, healthcare, justice. Working exactly as designed.

What system are you operating in?
Is that system designed for your benefit?

If you are burnt out, running on empty, doing everything “right”, ask yourself if you are inside a system designed for productivity or profit, at the expense of your wellness?

Are you trying to win a rigged game?
Redesign the system you’re actually inside.

Your day. Your rhythm. Your rituals. Flip the script, change the paradigm. Make choices that align to your wellness.

That’s the whole premise behind Sister Science programs. Connect YOU to systems that serve you - that are designed for you. Ayurveda calls this DINACHARYA, your daily system that maximizes your qualitative well-being experience.

THERE ARE 4 TYPES in Human Design. Each of them has an operating system that when followed - offers efficiency, energy, and a sense of fulfillment.
When not followed results in burn out. Do you know yours?

GENERATORS:
Do you need to wait? To respond to life rather than initiating, using your gut instinct to say a clear "uh-huh" (yes) or "uh-uh" (no)?

Are you driven by your intuition and need to feel motivated in order to be productive?

MANIFESTORS:
Do you need to honour your internal creative urges and practice informing others before you drive forward in action?

Are you a natural leaders and initiator who drives reality around you?

REFLECTORS:
Do you need to think on something a while? Waiting a full lunar cycle before committing to major life choices?

Are you highly sensitive and perceptive, needing time to reflect on new information before making decisions?

PROJECTORS:
Do you work best when someone invites you to focus your energy on something important?

Are you here to guide and inspire others, and you are most effective when someone asks you to step in and support a specific cause or situation?

Can you FEEL which one is you? Can you see patterns of when things work out really well for you? Can you see patterns when things burn you out... that you aren't following you design?

Lets flip the script.

Ever walk into a room and just feel it?

Light and open. Or heavy. Or a little off, and you can’t say why.

That’s frequency. We can feel it, we have just never been given permission to trust that feeling.

Well, those days are over.

This Monday, my friend Wendi of Open Door Design is opening the first session of her new 10-month Feng Shui journey, The Language of Space, to everyone. Free.

We’ll get into sound, light, colour, pattern, and your own felt sense. What are you actually picking up on when you step into a space? And what is your space telling you, all the time?

If you’ve ever thought “I can feel it... I just don’t know how to explain it” then dive into this juicy Sister Science offer. Come curious. See if this way of seeing speaks to you.

I sat in on this module on Friday…. And it did not disappoint!!

Monday, September 21st @ 7:00 pm
Online via Zoom
90 minutes, totally free

Message me or Wendi for the Zoom link.
We’d love to have you there.
