Happy International Day of the Midwife! #IDM2021. Today is a day we celebrate not only our fellow colleagues, the amazing job that we get to call ours, the impact that midwives can have on families, but we also celebrate the impact midwives can have for maternal and newborn health outcomes around the globe. We support the International Confederation of Midwives continually working to improve health outcomes around the world!

In Collingwood we are so lucky to have had investment in midwives in a novel clinic that we know as Healthy Babies, Happy Families . Here’s to seeing where the future will take this profession!

If you have photos of our midwives in action or a special shot with you and/or your little one, feel free to share on our post or tag us in your posts to be featured on social media ☺️

A big shoutout to all the physicians we work with at CGMH and in the community! From our lovely OB/GYN colleagues to our anaesthesiologists, our baby doctor team, radiologists, pediatricians, family physicians, and likely many more - we appreciate you! Thank you from all of us at Midwives Nottawasaga.

Today is #NationalPhysiciansDay, as recognized by the Canadian Medical Association. Today we celebrate all physicians for their tremendous dedication and their contribution to the communities they service. This past year has been hard, but our physicians have demonstrated compassion, perseverance and resilience through it all. On this special day we thank all physicians for their commitment during these challenging times.

Open letter in support of Midwifery program at Laurentian University

As some of you may have heard, Laurentian University (LU) announced this week that the Midwifery Education Program (MEP) would be discontinued along with many other programs at LU. Three of our current midwives received their education from this program.

As one of only three schools in the province they turn away 90% of the 300 per year that apply. Midwives already have long waiting lists and without new graduates to absorb some of that demand we will be turning away more pregnant clients than ever. Please consider signing this petition to protect our students (who have already committed years of their lives and tens of thousands of dollars to a degree they may not actually receive now), faculty and most importantly future families seeking midwifery care.
Thank you

Based on what we know, there is no theoretical reason to believe the COVID-19 vaccines would be unsafe in pregnancy. The vaccines do not contain live virus.

Sleep is one of the biggest challenges parents face and there is no shortage of information and advice out there.

The problem is that it's not all evidence based or easy to customize to you, your infant, or your parenting style.

Kat is an Infant Sleep Educator and offers Personal Sleep Chats to help you nurture your child and support them through their sleep successes and challenges while following your intuition and parenting in a way that allows you to foster a secure attachment with your baby.

Some of the most common questions are:

- Is my baby getting enough sleep?
- Why won't my baby sleep in their basinet?
- I'm so tired! How do I get the sleep I need?
- Will my baby ever sleep through the night?
- Am I going to ruin my baby's sleep by picking them up all the time?

During a Sleep Chat with Kat she will clear up

- Why your infant sleeps the way they do (and how it's different from adult sleep)
- How you can get the sleep you need during tricky times and celebrate successes
- And offer gentle methods that will lead to better sleep for everyone in your home (customized based on your intake form)

Check out the link in our bio for more info and to book your Virtual Sleep Chat with Kat now!

Our Story

Midwifery clinic in Collingwood. Hospital privileges in Collingwood and Orillia. Homebirth and waterbirth available. Midwives provide free, expert care during pregnancy and for six week after the baby is born. Midwives are paid by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Throughout pregnancy, labour, birth and the first six weeks of your baby's life, you will be cared for by a small group of midwives. This means that you will know the midwife who delivers your baby. Midwives Nottawasaga covers a large rural catchment area of approximately 3200 km2. Our clinic is located at 9811A Beachwood Road, and we offer births at home or the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital (CGMH). Our Midland satellite clinic just received funding for its own practice, and will soon become Midland Midwives Georgian Bay! It is located at the Chigamik Community Health Centre, 845 King Street, Unit 10 in Midland and midwives there offer births at home, Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH - Midland) and Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH).

I'm so grateful to have the care of the Nottawasaga Midwives through my pregnancy and at my home birth.
