Metal Toxicity

As we all know we live in a toxic environment which continues to get even more toxic. In a Brown University study, researchers found nearly 23% of women aged 16 to 49 met or exceeded levels for all three environmental pollutants i.e. lead, mercury and PCBs. They found that 56% of women exceeded the median for two or more of these three pollutants. All but 17.3% of women were at or above the level for one or more of these toxic chemicals.

The body normally detoxifies metals with foods containing natural detoxing agents such as sulfur found in eggs, liver, garlic and onions. Other common detoxifying foods are beets, cilantro and foods with high vitamin C content. Our bodies' own detoxifying system is frequently overburdened.

Some of the symptoms and conditions related to heavy metal toxicity are:
•Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and all autoimmune diseases
•Mood swings, depression, anxiety, neurotransmitter deficiencies
•Parkinson's Multiple sclerosis and other neurological conditions
•Cancer, Anemia, headaches, low energy, depression, tremors

To find out about ones' heavy metal burden, a hair and provocative fecal stool analysis are two of the best methods used.

Taking preventative measures to minimize the accumulation of heavy metals is a key component to manifesting health and should be done on a regular basis.

Blog from our building Naturopath Dr. Janice Shouldice,

My doctor says my baby is colicky what should I do?

Your baby could be reacting to the food you eat through your breast milk. It is often a good idea for a breastfeeding mom to get her Food Intolerances tested to prevent her baby from having digestive disturbances. The most common reactions occur when mom eats broccoli, cabbage, wheat or dairy. You can keep a food journal to see if you can find what foods make your baby worse, but if you are not successful in finding any correlations then it is easier to get your intolerances tested.

A teaspoon of Anise or Dill tea every couple of days for a week or two may also help to sooth the stomach. Make sure your baby is getting some healthy pre and probiotics from a reliable source. It should be sourced from human micro flora not bovine and should be specifically designed for babies. Most health food stores carry these.

If the problem is muscular skeletal, for example if your baby had a difficult birth then Cranial Sacral Therapy, Bowen or Chiropractic manipulation can help enormously.

Hopefully your baby will get relief from one or more of these therapies.
