These are the people who have shaped my career. 💗

The person newly diagnosed with diabetes, frightened about what the future might hold.

The man living with cancer who showed up to exercise on the very day he learned he was palliative.

The woman living with persistent pain who believed she’d never golf again, only to return to the course the following summer, pain-free.

Every one of these experiences has shaped how I approach my work as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist.

I’m simply a guide, walking alongside people as they explore what’s possible and rediscover hope, confidence, and perhaps even joy in movement.

A meaningful moment from my Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology Professional Member Legacy Award acceptance speech.

What's trending in fitness for 2027? Perhaps something familiar!

The American College of Sports Medicine recently released its worldwide fitness trends, and a few of the rankings caught my attention.

Wearable technology is still at the top, but balance, coordination, programs for older adults and group fitness are also getting attention.

It got me thinking about something.

Movement doesn't necessarily need to be new or trendy to be valuable.

In this week's Letters from Lisa, I share a few reflections on the trends and what they might mean for how we choose to move.

Let’s go! 🙌

I'm getting ready to kick off another live workshop in The MedFit Movement Studio this morning!

Today's topic: Reconnect with Your Shoulders — Discover How the Parts Work Together.

We'll be exploring how the upper arms, shoulder blades, collarbones, rib cage and spine contribute to the way we move our shoulders.

I love having the opportunity to bring movement education into a practical setting where we can explore, get curious and discover new possibilities.

What are you doing this Friday?

Our next workshop is coming in January 2027, and I'd love to have you join us!

Do you notice your shoulders when you wash your hair or reach into a cupboard?

This week’s Letters from Lisa includes a short video with three simple movements to help you explore how your shoulders move.

You can pause, make a movement smaller or skip an option. There’s no need to match how far I move on screen.

Read the blog and explore with me:

They’re always behind you. Usually out of sight. Often out of mind. Joining in when you reach for a mug, pull on a sweater, or tuck your shirt into the back of your pants. You might go...

The workshop is this Friday!

Do your shoulders ever feel stiff, uncomfortable or harder to move than you’d like? You don’t have to simply accept that. Your shoulders may have more movement options than you realize. Your shoulders are more than where your arms meet your body. Your upper arms, shoulder blades, collarbones, ri...

I have some exciting news to share!

Last night, I had the incredible honour of receiving the 2026 CSEP Professional Member Legacy Award from the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology.

This is the organization's highest professional honour, recognizing leadership, mentorship, advocacy, and lasting contributions to exercise science in Canada.

When I think back over the past 25-plus years, I feel incredibly fortunate to have built a career around something I love: helping people find their own way to move, feel better, and discover what their bodies are capable of.

There have been so many people who have shaped this career, from family and friends to colleagues, mentors, students, and, most importantly, the clients and patients I've had the privilege of working alongside.

I'm so grateful for this recognition and for everyone who has been part of the experience.

Thank you, CSEP! 💗

They’ve got your back. 😉

Usually out of sight and often out of mind, they join in when you reach for a mug or pull on a sweater.

Your shoulder blades.

This week’s Letter from Lisa explores their role in everyday movement and why control and coordination deserve attention alongside strength and flexibility.
