We all need help

"A few weeks ago, I started the 'I need' box in my class, a way for my students to ask for help without having to come directly to me. They write their needs on a card and leave it in the box.

The first week, two boys let me know about a bullying situation. We got it taken care of. The next week, I changed the format a little and started having EVERY student put a card in the box every day. They didn’t have to write on it, but every student visits the box daily.

Since then, I’ve had a plethora of 'needs' submitted. They range from specific supply needs, seat changes, special handshakes when entering class, after school help, bullying situations, and even hugs.

What’s even better is students are starting to come to me directly with issues/challenges they are having bypassing the box completely. I’ve been teaching middle school for 15 years, and I can honestly say this is the best thing I’ve ever done to reach my kids this early in the school year." ❤️

cancer is one acutely sharp reality check. It was how I knew that some people who pretended but were suppose to be there for me,were only there for themselves. It could take a lifetime to figure it out, or just a year of cancer treatment . Either way the truth about some very shrewd ,crafty, vile people comes out, just as the truth about decent godly family and friends fills you with hope and trust again. Good people are a treasure, a wonderful gift from God,

"This, friends, is what greatness looks like in a quiet moment."

Scott Mann posted this about his mother-in-law.
It will take you less than a minute to read it.
And I promise it's worth it.

Here's what Scott wrote:

This is Sharon, my mother-in-law.

She taught me it’s important work to see someone for who they are and not what you expect.

When I first met my mother-in-law I had a hard time understanding her thick south Virginia accent. And she seemed a little bossy in that southern passive aggressive polite way.

But I knew she was important to the love of my life, so I accepted her grudgingly as some of us do when family is forced on us.
After 5 years I still didn’t really know her.

When my wife got leukemia at 30.
When our world was shattered and changed forever, Sharon very quietly and very firmly stepped into the role she was born for.

She moved, with her dependent Vietnam vet husband, into our house and became Michele’s caretaker too.

Over the last two years she bought most of the groceries, cooked almost every meal, did most of the laundry and cleaning, drove both dependents to almost every one of the 300+ doctor appointments, sorted tens of thousands of pills, and made sure they were all taken on time at every hour every day.
And she did this when she herself was diagnosed with cancer 6 months ago. When she was getting a mastectomy. When she is going through chemo.

She hums when she works.
She talks to herself when there’s no one to listen, and she goes about every day with humility and grace.

I took this photo before I left work this morning.
She didn’t know I was there.

This, friends, is what greatness looks like in a quiet moment. Waiting on oatmeal to cook for her daughter for the 300th time since she got sick.

Not everyone gets to have a real-world superhero in their lives.
And for this I am filled with gratitude every day.

Happy National Dentist Day!!!! What an amazing group of ladies!!!!
Happy National Dentist Day!!!! What an amazing group of ladies!!!!!
I took my Mom (who is 90 and has avoided Dentists at all cost) to see Dr Nelly last week. After a follow up visit with Dr Ragastar it was determined that Moms tooth had to come out! Dr Nelly and staff where fabulous! Mom had her tooth out and after all was done and I had her back home, she told me that it was a very pleasant experience. Other than actually having a tooth pulled. Mom will not hesitate to go to Dr Nelly in the future and she told her friends how comfortable and kind Dr Nelly and her staff where. A big thanks to this dentist where calmed a 90 yr olds fears and helped in her time of need. Thanks very much!
I highly recommend Dr. Nelly Soliman Wabba located in Fonthill for all of your dental needs. For the first time in a very long time I can smile with total confidence. For those with high anxiety or "white coat syndrome" her kind, gentle yet professional manor will rid you of feeling stressed. Dr. Nelly and her team are truly amazing. Thank you Dr. Nelly! 😁
