October is World Mental Health Month πŸ’š

Mental health is an important part of our overall health and well-being. Just like we care for our physical health, it's important to take time to care for our minds, emotions, and relationships too.

This month, let's help break the stigma around mental health by encouraging open conversations, showing kindness, and reminding one another that it's okay to ask for help. Mental health challenges can affect anyone, and no one should have to face them alone.

Take a moment today to check in with yourself and with someone you care about. A simple conversation, a listening ear, or a small act of kindness can make a big difference.

Remember: It's okay to not be okay. ✨
It's okay to ask for help. ✨
You are not alone. ✨

World Mental Health Day was recognized on October 10th but Mental Health doesn't only exist for one day

Let's work together to create supportive, compassionate communities where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. πŸ’š

As I return to the office this week, I can’t help but reflect on the wonderful opportunity we had to attend the Labrador Wellness Fair in Labrador West, hosted by Labrador West Status of Women at Menihek High School 🏫

It was amazing to see so many organizations gathered under one roof, sharing knowledge, resources, and support with local youth. The day was a powerful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together with a common goal: supporting the health and well-being of young people.

Some of the highlights were seeing youth learn about the supports both within and outside their own community to help them better understand the resources available to them, the conversations happening at each table as youth asked questions or popped by to say hi and check out what each table had to offer.

It was also a fantastic opportunity for organizations to connect, collaborate, and build new partnerships πŸ—£

A huge thank you to Labrador West Status of Women for hosting such a fantastic event and to all the organizations that participated. Together, we're helping create healthier, stronger, and more connected communities for our youth. πŸ’™

The impact of coming together like this reaches far beyond a single day. ❀️

We look forward to the next one πŸ˜‰

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation | September 30 🧑

Yesterday, SHIELD Project took the day to recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and to reflect on what this day means here in Labrador.

We honour the Survivors of residential schools, remember the children who never came home, and acknowledge the ongoing impacts that residential schools and colonial systems continue to have on Indigenous Peoples, families, and communities across Labrador and Canada.

Here in Labrador, reconciliation is not simply something that belongs to the past. It is connected to the relationships we build today β€” through listening, learning, respecting Indigenous voices and knowledge, and working to address the barriers that affect access to health, wellness, safety, and support.

At SHIELD β€” Sexual Health Information Exchange Labrador District, we are committed to providing accessible, confidential, and non-judgmental support to people throughout our communities. We recognize that meaningful care must include respect for culture, community, lived experience, and the right of every person to be treated with dignity.

Truth comes before reconciliation. Reconciliation requires ongoing learning, reflection, relationship-building, and action.

🧑 We remember.
🧑 We listen.
🧑 We learn.
🧑 We continue the work.

Every Child Matters.
