Sometimes the most helpful thing you can do for your hormones isn't adding another supplement to the cabinet.

It's taking a look at the things your body has been asking for all along.

Because hormone health doesn't exist in a vacuum. Sleep, nutrition, recovery, stress, digestion, and liver function all influence the environment your hormones are working in.

And this is especially worth thinking about if you're dealing with cycle changes, PMS, fatigue, poor sleep, or the hormonal shifts that can come with perimenopause.

More supplements aren't always the answer.

Sometimes the better question is: what does my body need more of?

Save this one if you're working on your hormone health from the inside out. 🌿

PART 2: The liver + hormone balance connection 👀

When women think about hormone health, the conversation usually goes straight to estrogen, progesterone, supplements and “balancing” hormones.

But there’s another piece of the puzzle that deserves attention:

Your liver.

Your liver is involved in processing hormones, including estrogen, and preparing them for elimination. That makes liver function an important part of the bigger picture when we're talking about hormone health and estrogen metabolism.

And this is where I think the word “detox” can get confusing.

Your liver already has sophisticated detoxification and metabolic pathways. You don't need to make it work harder with a trendy cleanse.

You want to support the organ that's already doing the work.

That means giving your body the nutrients it needs, eating a varied whole-food diet, getting adequate protein, staying hydrated and minimizing unnecessary burdens where you can.

And remember what we talked about in Part 1:

GUT → LIVER → ELIMINATION

These systems don't operate independently.

Your body is constantly processing, regulating and eliminating compounds — including hormones — and supporting one part of the process can affect the bigger picture.

So when you're thinking about natural hormone balance, don't just ask:

“What should I take?”

Sometimes the better question is:

“What does my body need to do its job well?” 🌿

Part 3: Stress + hormone balance is next. 👀

Cold & flu season is exactly when I reach for echinacea root + oregano 🌿

If someone around you is sick, these are two herbs I like to use as part of a short-term immune support strategy. And if you do start noticing those first cold or flu symptoms, echinacea root and oregano can be useful herbs to have in your toolkit to support your body while it fights back.

The key? Short-term use. These aren’t herbs I recommend taking indefinitely “just because it’s cold & flu season.” Think targeted support when you actually need it.

🌿 Echinacea root — traditionally used to support immune function and is one of my go-to herbs during acute illness.

🌿 Oregano — contains naturally occurring compounds with antimicrobial activity and can be a powerful addition to a short-term herbal protocol.

The goal isn’t to pretend you’ll never get sick. It’s to give your body some extra herbal support when exposure or symptoms show up.

Save this for cold & flu season because you’ll want it when everyone around you starts coughing. 😅

Your gut isn't just responsible for digestion. 👀
and deserves to be part of the conversation when we're talking about hormone and estrogen health.

Here's why:

Your liver helps process hormones, including estrogen which enters the digestive tract after processing.

And this is where your gut microbiome becomes relevant.

Certain gut bacteria produce enzymes that can influence whether estrogen metabolites are removed or become available for reabsorption.

Which means your gut isn't simply a “digestive” system sitting off to the side.

It's interacting with the way your body processes and handles hormones.

So what can you actually do?

🌿 EAT MORE FIBRE

Fibre-rich foods support regular bowel movements and provide fuel for beneficial gut microbes.

Think vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, nuts and seeds.

🌿 PRIORITIZE REGULAR ELIMINATION

Your body needs a route to get metabolized compounds out. Constipation isn't something I'd simply ignore when you're thinking about digestive AND hormone health.

🌿 DIVERSIFY YOUR PLANTS

Instead of obsessing over finding the “perfect” probiotic, focus on giving your microbiome a variety of plant foods to work with.

Different fibres and plant compounds support different microbial communities.

And here's the bigger takeaway:

Hormone health isn't just about taking something to “balance” your hormones.

It's also about supporting the systems involved in their production, regulation, metabolism and elimination.

Think you need a hormone-balancing supplement? 👀

Before adding another capsule to the pile, it’s worth looking at the systems that help your hormones get made, metabolized, regulated and eliminated.

Because hormone health isn't just about how much estrogen, progesterone or cortisol you have.

Your digestive system, liver and stress response are all part of the bigger picture.

🌿 **YOUR GUT**

Your digestive system plays an important role in what happens to hormones after they’ve been metabolized. Healthy digestion, regular elimination and a balanced gut environment all matter when we’re talking about hormone metabolism and estrogen elimination.

🫀 **YOUR LIVER**

Your liver is one of the major processing centres for hormones. It helps metabolize hormones so they can eventually be eliminated from the body.

So supporting hormone health isn't simply about trying to “boost” a hormone.

Sometimes it’s about supporting the pathways that help your body process and clear what it no longer needs.

🧠 **YOUR STRESS RESPONSE**

And then there’s stress.

Chronic stress doesn't exist in some separate little box labelled “mental health.” Your stress response interacts with multiple systems throughout the body, including the HPA axis and cortisol regulation.

Which is why constantly adding more supplements while ignoring sleep, recovery, digestion, nutrition and stress load can completely miss the bigger picture.

This is one of the biggest things I wish more women understood about hormone balance and hormone health:

✨ You don't always need to ADD something.

Sometimes you need to ask:

What does my body need more support doing?

Because supporting hormones isn't just about the hormones themselves.

It's about supporting the systems that make, regulate, metabolize and eliminate them.
And THAT is where herbalism gets really interesting. 🌿

Menopause isn’t the end of your best years — but your body is asking for a different kind of support. 🌿

**Second Spring** is my herbal blend created for women navigating perimenopause, menopause, and the hormonal transition — when things like hot flashes, night sweats, sleep changes, mood shifts, and cycle changes can suddenly become part of everyday life.

This formula combines black cohosh, chaste berry (vitex), and d**g quai — three traditional herbs often used in women’s herbalism to support the body through hormonal transitions.

And honestly? I love the name *Second Spring* because this stage of life doesn't have to be something we simply endure. It can be a transition into a whole new season. 🌸

If you're looking for **natural menopause support, herbal support for perimenopause symptoms, or plant-based support during hormonal changes**, this is exactly the kind of herbal formulation I love creating.

Your first spring was about becoming.
Your Second Spring is about becoming more you ✨

Chaste berry is one of those herbs I think every woman interested in herbalism and hormone health should know about. 🌿

Traditionally used for female hormone balance, menstrual cycle support and PMS, chaste berry is particularly interesting because of the way it interacts with the brain–pituitary–ovarian axis rather than simply “adding hormones” to the body.

It’s commonly used in herbalism for concerns like PMS, breast tenderness, menstrual irregularity and cycle-related symptoms—especially when progesterone support may be part of the picture.

What if calming anxiety isn't always about trying harder to relax?

When your nervous system is overwhelmed, the goal isn't to force yourself into calm — it's to give your body signals that it is safe enough to settle.

One of the simplest? Warmth. 🤍

A warm herbal tea, a heating pad, a warm shower/bath, or simply getting physically warm can become part of a calming routine.

And when I'm thinking about herbs for an already stressed or burnt out nervous system, I don't automatically reach for stimulating herbs.

Instead, I look toward more grounding and nourishing herbal options such as ashwagandha, holy basil and rhodiola, along with calming herbs like chamomile, lemon balm and skullcap.

The goal isn't to knock yourself out or sedate your nervous system.

It's about creating conditions where your body can downshift, feel supported and safe enough to settle 🌿

If you're interested in natural approaches to anxiety, stress management, nervous system regulation and herbalism, save this for later.

Stress doesn't just affect your mood. It can influence how your body responds to pressure, energy demands and everyday stimulation.

And when you're living in that state for long enough, things that normally feel manageable can suddenly feel… like a lot.

This is one reason I love adaptogens.

Rather than simply giving you a quick burst of energy, they are used to support the body's ability to adapt to stress and maintain a more resilient response.

🌿 Siberian ginseng (Eleuthero) is one example.

It's an herb I think about less as “something to take because you're tired” and more as an herb for supporting stress resilience, energy and overall adaptability.

Because sometimes the goal isn't to push yourself harder.

It's to help your body handle what you're already asking of it. 🤍

Have you ever noticed that when you're under prolonged stress, your energy, focus and tolerance for everyday things seem to change too?
