Owners' joy as pet cat found - after being missing for 10 years

Just wanted to share a heartwarming story that has been in the news this week. This boy was reunited with his family after being missing for 10 years! It was all thanks to his microchip. It just goes to show that anything can happen but the small things such as microchipping your pet definitely can make a huge difference.

A 12-YEAR-OLD cat has been reunited with its owners after being reported missing 10 years ago.

We would like to introduce you to this cute little fellow we have named Hobbes. Three days ago we received a call from a concerned citizen that said they had found this poor little kitten near their house. They saw that his leg looked injured and wanted to do the right thing so they called us. This poor little kitten was left alone outside fending for himself with a severe injury. Based on his size we estimate that he is about 9 to 10 weeks old and with how well socialized he is, he had likely been someone's pet at some point in time.

We happily took Hobbes into our clinic and got him cleaned up and fed him a nice warm meal which he gladly devoured. It was clear that something was wrong with his right front leg. We did some X-rays and confirmed that his right front leg had been broken at some point and had never been treated. His leg managed to slowly heal with time but was healing improperly as his leg was never realigned to the proper position. This is why it sticks out to the side at a crazy angle!

He is now fully under our care and recovering very well and he is the sweetest little guy! He loves to cuddle and as soon as you pet him or pick him up he starts to purr so loudly! He will take his injured leg and gently stroke your face with it. He would be happy staying in your arms all day if he could. In the past few days he has filled out nicely and is doing extremely well.

Dr. Burmeister reached out to Dr. Turpel at the Upper Canada Animal Hospital and asked him what he thought of the X-rays and what he thought these little guy’s chances were. He agreed that this was an old injury that had unfortunately healed at a bad angle. The best chance for Hobbes would be to have this leg amputated so that Hobbes can lead a normal happy life free of pain. Upper Canada has offered to donate their services to perform the surgery. The plan is that he will go into foster care for six weeks while he gets bigger and stronger and then have his surgery to get him on the road to living a long and happy life. We will keep you posted on his progress.

Let me introduce you to Mrs. Jones and her cat Tigger - Mrs. Jones celebrated her 100th birthday last month and her cat Tigger is 23 yrs old ! That is equivalent to 108 years old in cat years! Can you believe it ? She still lives on her own near the clinic . Her family check in on her daily. Her mind is sharp and she still has a great sense of humour. Tigger as well is in amazing shape for his age - a bit of arthritis and constipation - but then don’t we all?!
Dr Mayanna Burmeister

We sent Mrs. Jones a birthday card for her 100th birthday and as you can see from the photo Mrs. Jones, Tigger and her granddaughter Kelly were all smiles!

They are in dire straits and need to come in tomorrow the cold. Our rescue, BDR, is looking at evacuating as many as possible into safe loving homes. We have been in rescue as foster parents for several years. As fosters all food and vetting is covered. As a foster you supply the love. For more info or to fill in a foster application pls contact BLACK DOG RESCUE directly or contact me and I can help you get going. Mar
This is kind of a public service announcement for microchipping your fur babies. Our cat Moka got out and was missing for several days. We couldn't find her and were concerned because of the storms the last few days. She is microchipped, always current on her vaccines etc. She was found. Thank you to the people who found her and took her to a local vet where they checked her for a microchip and contacted 24 hr Pet Watch with her chip #. 24 hr Pet Watch immediately notified us and she was safely returned. We can't say enough about microchipping. Whether its a dog or a cat. Whether its an indoor cat or not they can and do get out. Microchipping will get them home safely and is especially important if your pet has health issues. Its money well spent. Always remember to keep your information current with 24 hr Pet Watch too. Again a deep appreciation to 24 hr Pet Watch and eternal gratitude to the people who found Moka and took her for a scan.
Hi guys!!! I was just thinking that it's been a year since we first brought Tripp in after his stroke. We want to thank you again so much for being there for us. Tripp is doing incredible and we just couldn't be happier. 🤗😀
