Dr. Richard Tytus

Dr. Richard Tytus My academic background consists of an undergraduate degree from the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Toronto in 1977. I attended medical school at McMaster University, graduating in 1980.
(5)

I completed a Rotating Internship at St. Joseph Health Care Centre in Toronto and one year of Residency in Anesthesiology at McMaster. The breadth of my experience as a patient centered care physician is multi-faceted: I practiced in Blind River, Ontario for five years as a GP anesthetist, and learned to appreciate practicing medicine with limited resources. I am currently practicing Family Medicine in downtown Hamilton in an under serviced area, working with the most challenging segments of the population โ€“ the disadvantaged and chronically ill. This practice is supported within the context of an FHO/FHT which represents the spirit and cooperation required in a team environment. Providing leadership within local, regional and provincial roles has been pivotal in my continued quest to further the profession and patient care. I currently hold the position of the lead physician for the Main Medical Family Health Team (FHT). I sit on the Board of Directors for the Hamilton FHT which consists of 140 physicians and represents 280,000 patients in the Hamilton area. I am the President of the Hamilton Academy of Medicine, Chair of the Business Practice Committee, and Delegate to the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) for Hamilton. I am currently chair of the OMA District 4. I am one of the 2 non board members on the OMA Leadership Working group consisting of 6 physicians, including the president, president-elect and the past president. I am able to share my breadth of experience, success and challenges of a local physician demonstrating my community leadership. I am an Associate Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at McMaster University. Having mentored and taught hundreds of medical students has enabled me to help shape our leaders of tomorrow. As a result of this commitment, I have been honored as the recipient of the Dr. Jim Morris award, which is the undergraduate medical teaching award. My personal life revolves around my wife, my four children who are all in University, and a great dog.

I have to be in self-quarantine until March 24. Virtual Medicine saves the day! I am still able to care for my patients from my home quarantine.
