Mark Preece Family House

Mark Preece Family House Hospital Family House
The Mark Preece Family House provides a "home away from home" for families of critical care patients receiving treatment at a Hamilton area hospital. Located next to the Hamilton General Hospital, the House will provide affordable and accessible accommodation, hope and healing in a comfortable home-like environment.
(71)

The House pays tribute to Dr. Mark Preece, who was a respected physician and valuable member of the Intensive Care Unit at Hamilton Health Sciences, until his death in 1997. After staying at a Family House in the U.S.A., family, friends and colleagues wanted to ensure the same type of support and comfort is available in Hamilton.

The Cathedral High School kids who came to cook for our guest families last night were awesome! They took turns telling the guests about themselves. For example, "I am Amashi and I was born in Sri Lanka and I speak four languages."

I can’t tell you enough how much our guest families were impressed by these kids and their teacher. They hugged some of the guests, cooked a scrumptious home-cooked meal and took the time to connect with everyone.

What an awesome model group for our Thyme4Dinner program. This is what it's all about! Way to go guys 'n girls!

What an awesome way to give back!

This family - and there's a lot of them - are related to Mary Lou Weber who passed away in 2014. Some of them stayed at the Mark Preece House when Mary Lou was in hospital in Hamilton.

To honour and surprise their dad, Morris Weber, on his birthday, they presented him with this!

From all of us at the Mark Preece House, many thanks for your generosity!

Housekeeping is an important part of how we are able to provide a warm, clean, comfortable and comforting "home away from home" at the Mark Preece House for families who come here.

Often, those families are in distress, with a loved one in critical care at a Hamilton hospital, and they are away from home and under considerable duress.

We do our small part to make their journey, as our Scottish Sandra would say, "a wee bit more comfortable!"

When you think of your own house, what are all the little items you need to keep the family going?

Multiply by 24 and that's what we need and use at the Mark Preece Family House, where folks get a "home away from home" when they have a loved one in critical care at a Hamilton Hospital.

Thanks to the generosity of donors, we are able to offer families a greatly subsidized rate to stay here.

These young researchers -- Sahar and Kanwal from TaARI -- dropped off much-needed items for our families to use. TaARI is conducting research into the pathogenesis, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of thrombosis and vascular disease at the Hamilton General Hospital.

Mark Preece House provides a comforting home away from home for families with a loved one in acute care at a Hamilton Hospital.
It is with mixed feelings that the Board of Directors of the Mark Preece Family House announces the retirement of its executive director, Pearl Wolfe. Pearl has been with the House since it opened in 2011, providing strong leadership to the staff and volunteers and ensuring a loving “home away from home” for families during a difficult time in their lives. Pearl oversaw the successful expansion of the House in 2014, creating much needed space to grow. Her vision and direction created a solid foundation for the House which will stand it in good stead well into the future as she hands off the reins. We will be sad to see her go – but wish her all the best as she sets off on her new adventure. Recruitment is underway. Signed, The Mark Preece House Board of Directors
Hi I like to say that the Mark Preece Family House is a very special place it's your home away from home I had too take my daughter Crystal for testing at St.Joes hospital in Hamilton SO we stayed at the Preece House it was told my daughter's doctor I highly recommend this place ,it has great rooms and you have a kitchen too cock your meals to plus they provide all kinds of food for snacks or macking your breakfast, I can't say enough about this place and the price is very reasonable SO if you have a loved one that needs to be in one of the hospitals in Hamilton this is the place to be, and on top of all that you WILL be greated by I believe to be the niceest staff members you ever meet ,I also highly recommend donations to this place, they are self efeceant NO government help ,.I know I will be making a donation to this House I hope others will too.
