Physio Kaitlyn is participating in tomorrow’s @tenaquip Foundation Walk for Muscular Dystrophy. (Walk4MD)🚶🏼‍♀️This event is one that Kaitlyn has been participating in now for several years.

Muscular Dystrophy is a group of rare neuromuscular diseases that cause progressive deterioration of muscle mass and strength. It is typically diagnosed between the ages of 3 and 6 and for some, the disease is fatal. 😔

Each June, Hamilton holds the Muscular Dystrophy walk to raise important funds needed to support treatment and research, while also providing education to the community about this progressive disease. Unfortunately, due to covid this year’a event will take place virtually.

Here are a facts about Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a type of Muscular Dystrophy.

🔵 Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is the most common lethal childhood disease world wide
🔵 There currently is no cure
🔵 It leads to progressive deterioration of muscle mass and strength
🔵 It is typically diagnosed between the ages of 3-6 years of age

As there is no cure, a physiotherapist plays a vital role throughout the progression of Duchenne’s.

To donate in support of Physio Kaitlyn and Musuclar Dystrophy please see link in bio.

🎓 Let’s talk about Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS)! @kidsphysio sharing knowledge once again. 💚

It is a specific type of knee pain common in young adults - especially female athletes, however it can definitely present in a variety of populations 👦🏼👧🏾! PFPS is also referred to as “runner’s knee” or "jumper's knee" and the most common experience is pain❗in front or behind the knee.

Although there are many causes for PFPS, it is usually not a result of direct impact. Instead, it’s often related to repetitive movements, alignment concerns, and muscle imbalances. Other causes to look for are improper technique or footwear 👟, hyper or hypo-mobility around the kneecap, and muscle tightness.

Our therapists will work with kiddos to find the root cause & brainstorm 🧠 fun ways to not only reduce pain but also reduce the risk of injury in the future! By working on strengthening and education 📚, we can help your kiddo get back to doing what they love most! 💚

*Trigger warning*

Hamilton Kids Physio stands with the Muslim community.

Earlier this week, hate and Islamaphobia took the life of a physiotherapist colleague and his family in London, Ontario. We are a community in despair.

Salman Afzaal, 46
Madiha Salman, 44
Yumna Salman, 15
Talat Afzaal, 74

Ignorance and fear breed hatred; there is no place for this in our community or any community. The team at Hamilton Kids Physio remains steadfast in our commitment to doing the work required to vanquish Islamaphobia, racism, discrimination and hate crimes.

We mourn this horrific and senseless loss and we hold in our hearts, thoughts and prayers for the young survivor, 9 year old Fayez, as he recovers and grieves the loss of his family.

The Ontario Physiotherapy Association shared the fundraiser approved by the extended family of the victims - link in bio.

Posted @withregram • @kidsphysio Trigger Warning: residential schools

Kids Physio joins our communities in mourning all children lost to the horrific residential school system. The impact of this tragedy is far-reaching, and our hearts go out to all First Nations, Inuit, and Métis members of our community.

To honour the 215 children recently recovered, as well as the unimaginable trauma suffered by hundreds of thousands of children across the country, and their families and communities, 🧡we are encouraging all team members, and our community, to wear orange on Wednesday, June 2nd 🧡 Orange Shirt Day is typically held in September, but it feels important to come together as a community right now. Publicly recognizing and condemning the harm caused by residential schools is one small way we can contribute to reconciliation and resurgence.

Kids Physio is working within our team to ensure we are a safe space for all families to receive care. We have also made a donation to Jordan’s Principle- Equitable Services for First Nations Children. There are many, many worthy causes to contribute to right now, but if you would also like to contribute to or learn more about initiatives supporting Indigenous children through the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada, you can find more information at FNcaringsociety.com.

We send love and strength to Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc, and all communities grappling with this loss.

When I started working with kids, I didn’t realize the importance of side-sitting until I caught myself doing it ALL THE TIME. 🕰

So why is it important for a baby to work on side-sitting? 🧜‍♀️

Side sitting challenges a baby’s core strength more than ring sitting by encouraging a more upright posture (which you can see baby Z do in our video). It also engages baby’s trunk and back muscles. Core strength and trunk control are necessary for upright standing and walking. 🚶

Side sitting also prepares baby to transition into and out of sitting and into and out of the crawling position. We want baby’s first locomotion to be in prone!). 👶

Concerned about your baby’s development? @kidsphysio can help! #wemakephysiofun #infantdevelopment

To continue our celebration of National Physiotherapy month, @kidsphysio provides another look at how we make physio FUN! 🤹‍♂️

Our therapists are masters at being creative and at disguising exercises through play! While kiddos are thinking they are crossing the river on a narrow bridge to save the crocodiles 🐊, the therapist knows they are working on balance, coordination and muscle strength 💪🏻. Our clinic spaces are created just for kids with everything needed to make every session into a fun adventure 🗺 🎒! Come visit us and see how we can help make physio fun for your family!

When I learned about how pediatric physiotherapists can help with breastfeeding my mind was blown! Hamilton Kids Physio’s own Physio Kaitlyn has a lot of experience working with newborns 👶 for this very reason.

💚 this @kidsphysio post and our entire team.

Posted @withregram • @kidsphysio Did you know some infants may benefit from seeing a therapist to help with breastfeeding? 🍼 Due to their position during pregnancy or delivery, many newborns 👶 experience muscle tension and imbalances that can impact breastfeeding. The neck and jaw muscles are especially important!

Muscle tightness and imbalances can lead to:
🌟 Difficulties turning the head to one side, and limiting feeding on that side
🌟 Limited jaw range of motion needed for an efficient latch
🌟 Changes in newborn reflexes that drive infant feeding
🌟 Decreased overall neck and jaw strength
🌟 Uneven movements or pulling of the jaw, tongue and face

Pediatric physiotherapists can help to provide an individualized tummy time program to improve jaw alignment, strength and increase feeding reflexes 🤗 We can also treat muscle tightness and imbalances in the neck and face, to improve range of motion, newborn posture and target asymmetries! 💚

Support for breastfeeding 🤱 is most successful with a team approach! If your infant is struggling to breastfeed, speak to your lactation consultant or health care provider about the possible benefits from physiotherapy!

Our Story

Yes, just kids. Yes, just physio.

We were the first to provide this service in British Columbia, and are proud to have treated thousands of children of all ages and abilities over the past 10 years. Babies, kids, and teens function differently from adults, and our space and team are equipped to provide the highest quality physiotherapy care, delivered in an engaging way.

Our specialized equipment and treatments focus on improving mobility, strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, endurance, gross motor skills, cognition, motor planning, confidence, motivation, and more. With a large, experienced team we are able to provide custom programs based on each child’s distinct needs from birth to 18 years old.

Typically developing children with injuries, or those looking to extend or improve their athletic careers through pre-habilitation enjoy our open space, engaging equipment, and thoughtful treatment plans, while those with lifelong conditions benefit from the playfulness and our creative support to help them stay motivated in their rehabilitation journey.
