The GERAS Centre (Geriatric Education and Research in Aging Sciences) is an academic teaching and research centre that strives to improve health outcomes for seniors and their caregivers. Researchers at GERAS have been leaders in frailty, falls, & fractures, dementia research, and guideline development both nationally and internationally. Furthermore, our successful researchers and staff have supported undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate student research excellence. The GERAS Centre has three strategic directions that support our three overarching themes. These directions include: - Research: Improve Quality of Life - Interprofessional Education - Seniors and Families Our strategic directions include: - Frailty, Falls, & Fractures - Dementia & Delirium - End-of-Life Care We envision tremendous opportunities to build through collaborative ventures with McMaster University, primary care, community support services sectors, other specialty services, and academic health science Centre’s across Canada.

The FRS-Fracture Risk Scale automatically identifies long-term care residents’ one year fracture risk. The FRS is embedded within the RAI-MDS (Resident Assessment Instrument Minimum Data Set) - 2.0 or LTCF versions.
