Since COVID-19 hit, Global Health student Shania Bhopa has been busy. She's started her own non-profit organization, The Canadian Courage Project, which has helped homeless youth in the GTA. She's also started writing a wellness book. And she's hosting an upcoming webinar on September 15, which aims to help students with financial limitations find external graduate funding.
Shania says a placement with The Socrates Project at McMaster helped her learn valuable lessons outside the classroom.

Issue 5 of McMaster's Global Health: Annual Review journal, led by young global health professionals, is now available! A new webinar by Charu Kaushic and Geneviève Boily-Larouche from the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR)’s Institute of Infection and Immunity, located at McMaster, explores Canada’s research response to COVID-19. Their presentation highlights the ways in which the Government of Canada has been working to make meaningful progress, and how government funding is being spent on research and other pandemic-related initiatives.

Each year, an estimated 4.5 million Europeans die in need of palliative care. It’s a global health issue that MSc Global Health grad Natalia Arias-Casais is working to address. She and her and her research team have launched the 2019 Atlas of Palliative Care in Europe, a regional study that assesses the development of palliative care across the region. The aim is to provide evidence-based solutions to the lack of access to care and pain relief for people facing life-limiting illnesses.
